The settings are at 471/1.1 Ghz

For 3dmark 03 I got - 16800
For 3dmark 05 I got -7280

For some reason the "nature" demo of 3dmark 03, I had some graphic distortion towards the end - what is happening? Is the card overheating? I think at max it tops off at 65C and idles at 47c

What do you guys think about the score?

score seems reasonable and within limits.

My 78gt started artifacting only after 65C

that was running in SLI though.. but im pretty sure it still applies.

65ish seems to be the limit. mine idles at 45 and load is usually around 55.

So the graphics distortion there some of the textures seem to be missing is called "artifacting?"

What causes it heat?

Mine did that a lot at 465/1.1 It is down to 450/1.1 and its gone.

Most of the time is heat but inadequate power supply will as well. You can run ATitool to scan for artifacts when overclocked if you want, it warms up the card and checks for artifacts. If you cool it better you might be able to run the card at 470 without any artifact.

I have an Enermax 485 Watt PSU, I think that is sufficient wouldn't you say?

Where do I download this AtiTool?

Yep that is enough, you can get atitool here (http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/) but older versions do not support nVidia cards, so it's either the .24 version or the beta I'd say try the beta first it should work. By the way even if it doesn't support the card you can still run the artifact scanner.

I'm at 449/1.05 Right now and the Artifacts are gone. *Phew*

Down side is, performance isn't where I want it to be.

My Aquamark 3 score is 69,781

3D Mark 03 is 15,640

Do those sound about right with my system specs and card at that clock?

Your aquamark score seems low, but that could be ok for your cpu I don't know.

Definitely. I just ran it with no OC on my CPU and the OC on my GPU that you see in my sig and hit 60K. I get 10K in '03. You have a lot of stuff running in the background? Driver cleaner before installing new drivers?

EDIT, on second thought, if we could run aquamark3 at higher resolutions, I bet it'd seperate our scores a WHOLE lot more.

What res are you running your aquamark on?

Mine is set at 1024x768 AA - off on high detail.

I heard somewhere that if you have a PCI sound card installed, it will hurt your performance, is this true?

Well I have a PCI card, and yes Aquamark is at default for the free trial version...

Man, I'm really stumped on this Aquamark3 bench, why is my CPU so low on this one benchmark? Faulty CPU?

It seems as though that this is the norm for air cooled, slightly overclocked 7800 gt or gtx edition cards. Stock core/mem 470/1200 my card would heat up to 65 *C and peak right there. I turned up the core to 490 and the mem to 1300 and she heated up to 68*C and peaked at 70*C. It took about 15 minutes of playing call of duty 2 at full quality and the card began artifacting to hell. I pulled the memory clock down 50 points to 1250 and the core down 2 points to 488, the temp peaks at 68*C and the card does not artifact.

Guess what should arrive in the mail with Fed Ex Express anyday now? The dangerden Maze 4 GPU Water block for my 7800. Two words: Water Cool! But for an air cooling setup, I still have my core OC'ed about 20 Mhz over stock, the memory is what caused the artifacting and lowering it a tad solved the artifacting but not the heat.

Edit* P.S. You scores look on line for a 7800GT. I pulled around 8100 at stock settings on my 7800GTX and I believe I have 4 more pipes than you so dont worry, you are right in line. Just solve your heat situation and update us with 3dmark and OC results.
