Hi guys,

Got my new XP 1800+ today by mail. The stepping on the chip is as follows:

AX1800.....
AGKGA0138UPLW
Y6911330070

I was extremely pleased with the stepping. Am I right to say it was manufactured in week 38. Anyway is this a good stepping guys.???..

Another thing I observed with this processor is that there are no trenches on the L1 bridges. However there are little slits instead. I tried for the last few hours to unlock this baby but to no avail. Placing gule in these slits is hard work. Can anyone give me some insight into unlocking these babies. Help would be appreciated.....

I've overclocked the chip straight away its running stable at the moment @@@@@@@@@

@@@@@@

Please help me to unlock this baby......

Do a search on the forums or check out the guides on the front page. Plycon.com now has the trace tape for the xp's.
I hope this helps.

Edit:: this is an old thread and the plycon tape was recalled because it did not work.

There's about a half dozen (or more) threads currently discussing this in this topic.... read thru here, and the front page....Ed's posted some really good stuff there, as well...

Mask off the bridge heads with scotch tape. (in this and all future steps, make sure the tape is completely in contact with the processor surface.) Fill the space in between with superglue. Remove the tape. When the glue is dry, you can dissolve some of it away with nailpolish remover if necessary. Mask off a single bridge, and apply windshield defogger repair fluid or conductive ink. Repeat for all L1 bridges. Install the processor, and change the multiplier in the bios.
This could take over an hour to do. And you may have to do it more than once to get it to work. But the rewards will be great.

By the way.... Nailpolish remover removes the glue from the slits as well as the conductive paint from the bridges. Brush and roller cleaner dissolves only the conductive paint. If you get the bridges filled nicely, and yet screw up painting the traces, you can go back and not have to refill the pits.

I used scotch tape, super glue and defogger repair paint. Worked the first time! Then again, I did take my time. Took me a total of about 2 hours.

AGKGA is a good overclocker. From what I've heard, AGOGA is better, but AGKA isn't bad. I have an AGKGA. It isn't lousy. It isn't awesome. It's good.

For some reason I can't get mine running over about 1530 MHZ. I have a post http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=577919#post577919 that gives some more info about what I've done and seen in the process.

Check the CPU database. Most of them crap out between 1500 and 1600. It may be that you have simply reached the limit of your processor at 1530.

I learned the hard way about acetone cleaning the glue out of the trenches. I grounded out and got stuck at 11x. Back to the drawing board. 2nd times a charm woo-hoo!!!
