Yes yes its a stupid question but hear me out, my Epox 8k7a
how the hell do you use the multiplyer, does the cpu have to me unlocked? If so then the only thing I can do is raise the fsb from 133 -whatever till it bottoms out because of the voltage right?
one last thing what things can I change with a locked cpu any advice is greatly appreciated
Locked refers to the multiplier being locked and that is it.

Kenden's right with the XP's is appears that they are all locked one way or another. The good news is before they were pits but the XP's that are coming out now have slits instead. With a locked cpu you can still raise the fsb but not the multiplier.

First of all, Welcome to the Forums!!
There really aren't any stupid questions here. We all had to learn sometime, some way! We've learned from lurking, watching, and asking questions from others that found out the hard way.
I suggest that you go here (http://www.overclockers.com/topiclist/index04.asp#BEGINNER GUIDES) 1st, and read everything you can.
All AMD T'Birds 1.2ghz, and higher are already unlocked from the factory. If yours is locked, it's really easy to unlock it using one of the guides on the OC.Com home page. If you don't understand, or have a question, feel free to ask in this forum, or just give me a shout, and we will be happy to help you out personally.

I wrote such because I remember a guy (has a guy flicking his fingers for a icon) he had his up to 1700mzhs yet said he had a locked 1800+
do the 1800xps come standard at 11.5X133? his fsb was 150 or something near that
Yes a xp 1800 default speed is 11.5 x 133.
To get 1702 you need to set the fsb in the bios to 148mhz.
