This is the monitoring program that 1g_raider shared with us back on this thread (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42483). I spent an hour or so setting up my six clients on it. It took me that long since I don't know anything about PERL, but it worked right the first time. I've been missing kdfold since we switched over to v2.0, but this will do nicely. It will monitor all the folders on your network and once you install PERL and FoldMonitor, you can add each new box from within the program, so you don't NEED to know PERL. It's much better (for me, anyway) than running around checking all my boxes. The directions for setting it up are clear, and if you need further help you can pm me and I'll share my experiences. Here's a screenshot- large-sorry.

BTW, here's the link to the FoldMonitor (http://users.neosmart.com/hruzaden/folding/index.html) page.

Thanks again to 1g_raider for sharing this.

Yeah this is a great little program I've been running it for a while and the new version 4.11 I think, is pretty easy to setup.

Just installed it.

can you minimize it into the tray?

Looks like a nice little program.

Looks neat :D

Couple of questions:
Can it be minimized to tray, like theflycore asked?
Memory usage and CPU usage?

I'd like to know about the CPU usage as well.

On the tray question:

I have used a great little utility called 'Icon Corral' that takes windows and minimizes them to the tray. I will not post all the details of it, but it is very nice and also free.

I have only used it on Win95 and 98 so I can't vouch for anything above that.

Here (http://www.rocketdownload.com/dnload/icorral.exe) is a direct download link. And here (http://www.rocketdownload.com/Details/Util/icorral.htm) is a little write up on it at the download site.

DB- the only time it shows any CPU usage is when the screen refreshes, which you can adjust from 10 secs. to 600 secs. During a refresh, core_65.exe drops to 87% on my system for 1 second and perl.exe shows 13%. I have it set to refresh every 60 seconds because I like to watch the numbers climb. :D

As for running it in the tray, it doesn't seem to provide that option, but if Icon corral can do that, it might be worth trying. I'll have a look. Thanks.

update-edit:

Ok, FoldMonitor opens two icons on the taskbar: the display window I showed you and a text box that logs startup activities. This text box cannot be closed even after the monintor window opens.

I wasn't able to use Iconcorral because it doesn't recognize the *.pl PERL file extension as an executable so you can't set it up that way, and opening the perl.exe doesn't do any good by itself.
Someone more grounded in programming than myself might be able to "convince" it to recognize the .pl extension, or maybe I'll look for a similar program.

First I wanted to thank you so much for the recognition in your PM to me and in this post. It means a lot to me as there were few posts in reply to my thread I posted. :(

If you look in the folder where foldmonitor lives there is a folder called winstart if you use it to open foldmonitor it will open just the foldmonitor program and not put a perl box in your task bar. You should move the winstart icon to the main folder.

One more thing I will pass on is, if you click on the change client button and left click again above the dashes at the top of the drop down menu the box will detach and you can put it where you want it. Nice if you are monitoring several clients. The view box will also detach.

If you don't have the 4.1.2 version go get it. It has some major adjustments in it.

Thanks Again T.J.

You should be able to configure Icon Corral to tray an item based on it's window title OR on an .exe name. You don't need both.

So, if your window has the title of "FAH2Console.exe" you could tell it to tray any window with a name of "FAH2*" and it will tray any window beginning with "FAH2" when you minimize it.

Hope that helps.

1g_raider - I was happy to credit you for sharing this with us! It's a great little program. And you've come through again for us with this little update about the perl box. Thanks very much! I had discovered the detaching menu box but not the winstart. Nice indeed. Thanks for the post, and please, drop around often.

Dunga Bee- the window title bar is variable- it carries the percentages of all the folders you're monitoring so I don't think it will work for this one, at least I haven't figured it out yet, but thanks.

Ahhhhh. Gotcha.

If there is a pattern of some sort, that would work.

Or, you could put in any of the variations that you might have...but that might be a royal pain...;)

asmodeon and Dunga Bee- I found a similar program to Iconcorral on CNET called TrayMin (http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-1461987-101-5943277.html?tag=st.dl.1461987-100-5943277.ur.1461987-110-5943277) which will let you minimize a PERL executable. The link takes you to the description and download page. I'm running it, and it works. Memory usage is marginal and it uses no cpu time, so it works for me. This combined with using winstart.pl as 1g_raider suggested, takes two icons off the task bar making FoldMonitor much friendlier.

And that's it for me for tonight. see you all later.

I was looking at Traymin the other day too :) . Needed to find something like that for a customer. It will work nicely.

I was able to get Icon Corral to work by using:

"*FoldMonitor v*" as my window title entry (without the quotes).

Works like a charm. When I minimize the FoldMonitor window, it goes to the tray ;) .

Going to share the directories on other machines right now.

Thanks for the info folks :D

I think I'll install that today when I get back home :)
