View Full Version : Too loud!

I am running a 1.4ghz TBird system in an Antec SX1030B case.

I have already replaced all my ribbon cables with rounded cables.

I am currently using a FOP-38 heatsink with the small fan off a WBK-38 (the WBK heatsink would not fit on my motherboard).

I have the two Antec sleeve bearing fans, a high CFM fan and a variable RPM fan...

The two sleeve fans are fine however I am wondering if anyone can recommend a new CPU fan for me. I have already tried a Sunon fan (35 dB supposedly) that was still too loud. Also if anyone can recommend where to get two more good quality sleeve bearing case fans.

Finally, I don't particularly know if the PSU's fan is loud or not but I want to replace the PSU anyways because I can't stand not having the hard power switch, which the Antec PSU lacks. I would like at least 350W and a very quiet fan. (Can you tell I'm a noise freak? hehe).

I don't currently overclock (my motherboard refuses for some reason!) although my room temperature is low (usually 18-19C) so I don't need to extremely all out cool my system.

Throttle your fan back to 7 volts. Its easy to do. I actually posted some pix for another guy who wanted to do this recently. check them out here (http://24.150.17.155/3-4/index.html). (Yes, they are on my webspace, but I'm not advertising or anything bad, just trying to help somebody out.).

Panasonic Panaflos are good for low noise. They're sleeve bearing and quiet enough. Cheap H2O would be a good idea to consider also.

I modded my no name 400W PSU with a 80 mm 12db papst fan. It's virtually silent. As for case and cpu fans both papst and noiseblocker make really quit fans. I use both with my watercooling rig and it's QUIET.

Another tip is to detach your HDD from your case. Mine is mounted on some Foam rubber. A 50 cent mod that will drastically reduce noise levels. Just be sure you use 51/4 inch drive bay and leave space on top and bottom for air circulation.
My IBM 40 Gig 7200 drive does just fine, no temp problems.

I've taped on carbon pre-filter and that dampend the noise on my DORB 7000rpm fan.

Make sure you use good stuff so it doesn't stop the airflow. From my own tests, i thought it improved the noise greatly.

Yeah that works, I have been running the air duct system i'm playing with. (4 inch duct from intake to vent in window) When you plug up the duct it quites down quite a lot. I run a 4 by 12 filter on the intake. Keeps sucking leaves in though.

more questions :)

Is 80mm the proper size for a new PSU fan?

Also I don't see any particularly quiet 60mm fans for my CPU... there's only one quieter than the one I have.... anyone know where I can have a look at some of those Pabst fans?
