I am looking to upgrade my motherboard, but I need ddr2 memory.

What is some good cheap ddr2.

I am looking for two sticks of 512mb.

I will not be overclocking, I just need some decent stable memory.

Thanks!!

Monarch typically gets very poor marks for post-sales issues but good otherwise. By this I mean if you have a problem with the item(s) after you receive them, good luck.

Will the DDR 667 be that much more beneficial over the DDR 533?

Thanks

you could potentially tighten timings

are you stating no oc to memory or you are not oc'ing you cpu either?

If I do overclock it will be mild.

I havent upgraded in 2.5 years and have NO idea what is the best buy today.

Check my sig for my current pc.

My old video card died and I want to buy a new one, but I do not want to bother getting an agp one, so I decided to upgrade mostly everything so I caqn have pci-x.

I am not even sure I want to stick with intel. :bang head

Besides RAM, what MoBo, CPU and video card do you have in mind?

Problem is I do not yet know.

I'd like to spend less than $500 for a new motherboard, processor and ram.

Other than that I am clueless, I havent even decided on amd or intel

I am clueless as I have not been following anything for years.

I've never bought from Monarch and never will but right now they have the best and least expensive DDR2 modules money can buy: PQI Turbo DDR2 667 1GB Kit (http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=140685&Category_Code=PQI_DDR2)

But for double that, the 2GB kit (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820141211), would be a good choice also.

PQI is great, running running 368Mhz @ 4-4-4-12 w/o added voltage, who can beat 2gb for under $200 bucks?

MoBo: ASUS P5WD2 Premium (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131534)

RAM: PQI Turbo DDR2 667 (http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=140685&Category_Code=PQI_DDR2)

CPU: Pentium 4 631 Cedar Mill (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1645056&CatId=1552)

That would almost be an even $500.

Anyhow, the P5WD2-Premium is an excellent overclocking board and with a CM 631 you could hit 250fsbxDefault-Multi (@ 3.75ghz) and with a little tweaking and better cooling, perhaps a 4.0ghz wouldn't be hard to achive.

I must say though that the CMs at Tiger are not retail so the 3 year warranty is out of the question, if you can I'd suggest waiting for the retail version.

I can't comment on amd as it's a platform that I've never had but if you can ask around at "that" side of the forum you might get some opinions.

Do you know if the PQI Turbo RAM is compatable with the P5WD2-Premium?

I built an all new computer that doesn't work. If I power up the computer with the ram installed (in any slot) the computer never boots. No system beeps, keyboard lights, display, etc...

If I power the system up without the RAM the system will beep indicating that there isn't any RAM installed. So I was wondering if it's compatable with ASUS.

These are the system specs:

ASUS P5WD2 Premium
Intel DC 2.8GHz
Masscool Intel New LAG-775 Cooling Fan
PQI Turbo 1x1GB PC25400 single channel memory
Maxtor 6L300S0 300 GB SATA 150 16MB BUFFER
ATI SAPPHIRE Radeon X800XL ULTIMATE 100116U
Thermaltake Soprano case
Arrow 650W Power Supply Dual fan w/ 4 power strip and AC/DC Output

My computer is still doing the same thing. I have purchased two more dimms of ram. I have tried them all one at a time with virtually nothing else hooked up to the motherboard. Do you have anymore suggestions?

I have reseated the CPU and the fan twice. I have a Mascool fan hooked up but I could try my intel fan if that would make a difference. But I haven't tried a new PSU.

i can personally vouch for monarch computers, i live 15 miles away from their retail store. some of their prices are a little high, but if you need a part quickly they usually have it. not to mention, i bought my 17in. NEC lcd 1770GX 400+ dollar discontinued montior for 290. steal of a deal. bought it from one of their displays.

also, ive returned numerous products(rma) through them such as a 6600gt, asus p4p800-vm board, optical mouse, and they never once gave me trouble. i still buy from newegg cause its cheaper though

as far as ram goes, i just bought 4x512 ddr2 533 G.skill from newegg for 68.99 bucks per gig.

G.skill, and its definately more reliable then pqi... which ive heard is mainly junk ram, like the kingston value ram.
