View Full Version : S-W that will 1 and zero HDD
Dose anyone know a name of a program that will write zero's and one's to your HDD so no data can be retrieved from it after a format
Norton System Works includes one. I don't remember what the individual utility was called but is probably available for trial at the least at Symantec.com (http://www.symantec.com).
Download.com (http://www.download.com) would probably have one in the Utilities section as well if you wanted to look around for one.
PGP had a app,but can not think of it ?

I think that fdisk, and a Low level Format will also do it, some of the HD makers dens a floppy that will do it with there hardware

if you want to use a Norton utility to write 1 and 0 then use "WipeInfo" which is part of Norton Systemworks 2001 and 2002

isnt that a bit extenive
couldnt you format it regularly and then defrag it
mabey i dont want to know what you had on it
Evidence elimanater has worked very well for me, it does just what you are asking for and can overwrite same sectors 1 to 4 times.Warning tho defrag first and read/understand EVERY check box and option. Also clears dat files-trash in dos mode, I run it once a month.

i find that norton wipeinfo has a government part that makes the data, un accessable after formating the data, so a compltete writing of binnary is possible on the drive
