View Full Version : Need expert opinion on Alpha8045 and shipping PC Boxes

1) Will Alpha8045 fit on Shuttle AK31 v3.1?

2) If I install Alpha8045 w/1800+XP on above Shuttle board, is it safe for me to shipp the whole PC BOX via fedex to a friend?

3) How heavy is the alpha?

4) What's a reasonable performance/noise(low) ratio fan for the alpha? Is 31 cfm enough?

first of all i would like to say that i am not an expert

2) try your best not to send ur pc to a friend with fedex or anything... u know... accidents happen.. like they might drop it or something

4) to me, 31cfm is not enough... and i wouldn't even try ocing in it.

1. yes but the northbridge plastic pin that holds the HSF on it will be obstucting millimeters of the heatsink and a capacitor will be bent during the installation of the big heatsink

2. yes pack it well with two inches of foam around everything.

3. alpha 0845 weighs about 520grams I think that is correct.

4. make sure the alpha's fan is blowing away from the hs! yes 31cfm is fine. I would use more but for a non overclock that is plenty and won't be noisy at all.

5. buy the alpha a svcompucycle.com for 32bucks :)

You guys are great!

I'm helping a friend build a PC who lives in another state. It should be fun to install new stuff like 1800 XP. The reason I'm choosing PAL8045 is because of its attachment to the motherboard. I'll be applying articsilver II. Let me know if there's anything i should watchout for.

No, I'm no OC'ing this puppy. So, a quiet fan will do. I'm setting up a dual video graphic/web design workstation. I'm getting two Samsung 950Ps to go with it. Video card of preference so far is the Gainward one for 118 on Newegg. I'm ordering most stuff from Newegg.

no, but as you can see it fits without any mods maybe a little bending of a cap but nothing is in the way. I would look at the 8500 for twin video out and graphics should be onsale for around 200 again.
