generally the cooling unit on the nb isn't too complicated, usually just two white pins that hold it to the board, you'll take it out of the case, use a pair of needle nosed pliers to squeeze the backs of the pins together, facilitating pushing it through the board, then pull them out. If you've got butterfingers, then i suggest using masking tape around the holes so if the pliers slip, you dont damage the board. then when you get those out, it should come right off. this is for most modern boards, if it's just a heatsink mounted there without the pins, it's a bit harder, but you can do it. just put a credit card under the heatsink against the board, then use a screwdriver or similar flat edge to pry it off. If it takes a massive amount of force, don't do it, you can crack that chip easily. mounting the new one depends on the size of the holes across the chip, usually a blue orb or crystal orb are too wide to mount there, but you can use AS thermal epoxy MIXED with a bit of regular AS thermal paste or standard paste, this will soften the bond the epoxy makes, allowing you to remove what you install later if you need to (RMA?) anyhow, don't use a lot and MAKE SURE the AS doesn't spill over the edge of the chip, because it will conduct and cause problems you don't want to think about.

Dang, I,m gonna have to take my blorb off and take a pic of the copper shim I made so it lines up with the northbridge holes. Basically I made a copper shim that lines up with northbridge holes and lapped it to blorb and used ASII. I used one hole on the blorb to match one hole on the shim and used a TINY nut and bolt for the other end of blorb to shim. Then the other hole of shim fits the plastic pin of original. Works fine. To lap that blorb start out with a file to rough it in as those things aren't even close to flat then lap it.

For lapping heatsinks, I use a thick piece of plate glass laid out horizontally on a work bench. I tape the sandpaper face up on the glass to provide a flat surface to lap the heatsink. There are lots of posts here on the forum about how to lap heatsinks and what grit sandpaper to use. You might consider doing a search and reading up. You can glue a Blorb onto the northbridge. Use spots of super glue around the edge of the heatsink and thermal paste in the middle. If you already have a heatsink on the northbridge, most 40mm fans will attach right to it using sheet metal screws the right size (screwed right down into the cooling fins).
