I'm relatively new to overclocking *acknowledges the loud groans* and im wanting to squeeze a bit more power out of my PC. I can't afford to upgrade due to a huge credit card bill :( so ill have to overclock and make do for a while.

System:

Intel Pentium III 450Mhz
Micro-Star MS6156BX V1.0 Motherboard
256Mb Hypertec PC133 RAM
128Mb PC100 Unbranded RAM

ive had a fiddle with the DIP Switch thing (found it in the Motherboard pdf manual) but still says 450mhz on startup....

if anyone can give me a hand or any advice either post me a reply or add me to your msn messenger break_stuff_182@hotmail.com

cheers

The multiplier for your CPU is locked, so you have to research your motherboard and see if you can increase the FSB speed. Not all motherboards allow this and I'm not familiar with your particular setup.

Mr. Dave,

Try n see if you can get to the BIOS first. Have u gotten to the BIOS and found any settings for changing the frequency of FSB? (front side bus) If your BIOS doesn't have that option, see if your mobo manual will note where the jumpers for changing the frequency. Talk about major OC.. heehee look at my sig.. heeheehee =)

It's an american megatrends BIOS system. And i cant find any settings to change FSB settings. thought it might be in the Advanced Chipset menu but it wasnt. ive tried moving the jumpers round as detailed in the manual but it still says 450Mhz when i start up. any ideas?

will bios updates work? or maybe changing to a different type of bios rather than american megatrends?

Cheers

Dave

emm.. according to the manual, have u tried to disable the BIOS option and only enable the jumpers so u can change the frequency setting? Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with your mobo but it might work.. Try to find out that you have enabled the jumpers, then try bumping up the FSB on the jumper. This may or may not apply to yours.. try n see =)

go into windows and use a program to find out your speed, also you may wanna flash your bios....back when your mobo was made the 450 might not have been around, and your bios may not identify it, should still work though....

Try switching the FSB in the bios should work..

You should at least be able to switch between 66 and 100 FSB, if nothing else.

I've never owned an MSI, so I don't know what options there are in the BIOS/ Jumpers for Overclocking. Most pII mobos have 66, 75, 83, 100, 103, 112 (some have 124) And 133 Mhz FSB.

Have you tried SoftFSB or something similar? Chances are that'll work if there's no option of jumpers/dip switches or any option in the BIOS.

Remember, most pII's are multiplier locked, and the only way to OC is Bus adjustment. If the jumpers on the mobo are for multiplier, so changing these will not have any effect.

<<<EDIT>>> i checked the original brochure for my computer (god knows why i still have it after 2 years but anyway) and it says its got a 100Mhz FSB.
