i was looking at the 6800gs for my new pc build and its my 1st time building one, but ive been looking at all the video cards and i think the geforce 6800 is the best, but specifically the one im looking at is the xfx 6800gs thats overclocked from the factory for 485mhz compared top 420 or whichever

now some others
radeon x800gto2
radeon x1600xt
radeon x800xl All in wonder
geforce 6600gt
these are the main ones

im thinking the 6800 will be on top for the price of 190$
running pentium d 920

I just built a system with it in and it is great. It is a little loud but Riva Tuner allows you to set the fan speed which I did to quiet it down. I want really quiet so I will problably get an NV Silencer.

Here are some bench marks I hit with my current system without overclocking the video card any further:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.5GHz
Biostar T6100-939
2 x 512MB Patriot PC3200 RAM
XFX GeForce 6800GS 256MB

3DMark2001 SE Overall 21117

AquaMark 2003 Overall 64770
GFX 10335
CPU 8673

3DMark2003 Overall 12280

3DMark2005 Overall 5655

don't get the x1600xt, it's a midrange card. don't get the 6600GT, it's a midrange card. The 6800GS, or the X800GTO2 (which will unlock to 16 pipes and run X850XT PE speeds). The GS kicks a lot of ass, and with an overclock, starts taking names. I haven't used the x800gto2 so i can't say how good it is, but the x850xt pe is pretty good, compared to the 68x series. Hoever the GS is new, diffrent core (a variation) and seems to perform VERY well, with only having 12 pipes it can reach GT scores, insane. Wait for more input, but i will reccomend either the 6800GS or X800GTO2.

I bought a 6800 vanilla. Only 128MB but 256 bit, nice clocks etc. It's $140 after rebates and includes Far Cry.

I choose the 6800GS after researching several reviews because it kicks ass on everything except oc's GT, X1800 ATI and 7800 series nvidias. I haven't overclocked it or unlocked it to 16 pipes yet because I haven't needed to. I've tried it on Starship Troopers Demo and HL2 Lost Coast on high settings without any hitch. The GS rocks and if I find a game that taxes it, I'll oc it up to high gear.

You might want to take a look at my results [Insert evil laugh and boast here :D]. Yeah, I'm the greatest! :D
