Here's the story:
Ordered an ECS mobo and Duron 750 to make a folding machine.
Put it all together, powered up and fried my AGP card and who knows what else. So, I sent it all back and have received the new stuff.
Problem is I had to RMA my HSF to another place and do not have it yet. But, I'd like to turn on the PSU just to be sure it is OK before putting everything back in there.
Is is possible to power up the PSU w/o the CPU ?
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that it won't hurt anything and that the mb will just give you beeping codes but get a second opinion on this because i'm sick and not thinking straight right now from the cough medicine.

Yes you can power up the mobo & PSU without the CPU but you'll see nothing shown on the monitor. You can also power up without the RAM. The lights, fans will be up.. =)

Cool. Don't need to see anything on the monitor yet. Just want to be sure that there are no surprises waiting for me when I turn things on with the CPU, etc plugged in.
I'd rather just have to RMA the mobo if I have a problem and not everything :)
Thanks.

and if you have the beep tones on your manual you can hear the melody "no processor" followed by the "no ram"
that will make you sure the board is ok... better than just using the "nothing smoked" test :)
and whats wrong with the nothing smoked test???
Works for me :)

no u can not boot up with the cpu because the cpu has the "power good" connector.
