View Full Version : Fluctuating vCore

I've been recently having a lot of random reboots with the system listed in the sig, even after reformating and re-doing everything in the system, it still re-boots or locks up under light to moderate load.

I just noticed that the vCore in the uGuru fluctuates. Stock vCore is 1.37 yet it drops to 1.20v for a few seconds then back to 1.37v.

vCore= 1.20-1.37
12v= 11.99-12.05
5VSB= 5.22-5.24
3.3V= 3.37-3.39
5V= 5.26-5.39
FSBVTT= 1.23
NB2.5= 2.52-2.53
NB Core= 1.52-1.53
DDR= 2.03-2.04

Question: 1) is the vCore drop normal? is that the cause of my reboots/freezing? 2) if not normal, is the problem with the board? or 3) is the problem with the power supply? 4) is the uGuru reliable?

Thanks.

PS.- Because of the instability of this system, I've got a 950 D (ES) and P5WD2-E on order and should have it together this weekend.

that's a large droop and not normal at all. Problem would be with the board. Have you tried cooling the mosfets?

Measure the rails with a digital multimeter.

Some Vc droop between idle and load is "normal". Your Vc droop is nuts @ almost .20V. That would definitely be enough to cause instability. The 12V rail on the PSU doesn't look like it's in trouble, but that may change with the 950. The OCZ Powerstreams are GREAT, but I don't know much about the Modstreams. If the 12V rail on them has any weakness (only 28A), an OCed dual core will find it....especially if you are running any high powered vid cards along with it.

The P5WD2-E definitely has Vc droop as well...looks a little worse than the P5WD2 Prem from everything I've seen. There are a couple of people looking/working on the voltage mods for it I am sure, so give it a couple of days for those mods to start popping up.

Are you running the memory a bit too fast/tight at all? I'd definitely lean towards the Vc droop as the problem (mobo), but might as well cover all the bases...

Mosfets are somewhat cool:

PWM1= 111
PWM2= 113
PWM3= 111
PWM4= 120
SYS temp= 86
CPU temp= 79

My 12v fluctuates from 11.99-12.16 now.

Memory is running 308mhz, 4-4-4-12 timings. It's Corsair RAM rated for PC5300 - 333mhz.

Is there any other program out there that also monitors my vCore and 12V?

I bought a modstream 520 by mistake ... in a rush and still too much of a noob ... nice cables but lousy 12v rail - low and unstable ... i run a 478 northowood with it now.

Nothing but powerstream 420's and 520's for these prescotts for me.
