I have two PATA drives

One is a 60gig 7200 rpm 8 buffer
Two is a 80gig 7200 rpm 8 buffer

Currently the 80 is master and 60 slave

I am planning a fresh format of both drives and a reinstall of XP

The question I had is what HD would people here recommend I put XP on, and should I leave XP by itself on its own drive?

Should I leave XP and games on their own drive?

Should I put XP on one drive and game on their own drive?

Keep in mind that I store VERY little (for instance..I could probably use a single 30 gig drive for everything I have...lol..Im not a packrat)

Thanks everyone,

Vynny

It's really more about personal preference than anything else. You have two identical drives, other than their size being different, so it's really up to you to decide what's best for you. Why not experiment with different partition sizes, location of the OS and games, software, etc. This way you'll be able to see for yourself what works best for you personally.

In Your Case, I Would Setup Windows On The Smaller Drive And Setup Your Games On The Bigger Drive. So Your Swap File And Game Files Are Reading From 2 Diffrent Drives!

I've Also Setup Windows Before To Read "Program Files" From A Whole Another Drive...

The master/slave setup will color your choice, also.

In your setup, read/write requests to the slave will be first seen by the master. If you have an empty PATA, you might consider running two masters. If not, then you might consider using the slave position as the "less frequently" accessed.

A bit confused...what exactly do you mean by an "empty" PATA?

I have two PATA IDE drives and two optical drives. As far as I know I only have 2 IDE channels.

My mobo does support SATA, but I cant afford a new drive atm.

bad nomenclature on my part ... I meant if you had a free IDE connector on the mobo (that is, if you were running just two PATA drives and those were connected master/slave on one IDE connector with the other IDE connector free).

Ahhh..thanks..got it now =)
