I recently got 3dmark05 and have been benchmarking my system. Specs are as follows

Asus p5wd2-p
p4 560 @ 3.71ghz
2gb PQI 5400 ddr2 4/5 @ 333/666
BFG 7800GTX at stock speeds (470/1200)
74gb raptor
OCZ 520w powerstream

I have a 92mm fan strapped to the heatsink of my 7800gtx to cool it off a bit better. I thought I was having a thottling issue but with or without the fan my scores are about the same. When I had the 81.92 drivers installed I score 7524. I uninstalled them, cleaned out the system, and installed the 82.12 drivers and scored 7612 I beleive. This is on a relatively fresh install of windows xp, only been running a few weeks since i put everything together brand new.

Someone else recently posted about getting 8100 points on his overclocked 7800gt. I just have a hard time beleiving my card scores so low compared to a 20 pipeline card. He is running an Athlon chip, does that really make that much of a difference? I was thinking about doing another format and fresh install but im not sure if that will really help.

I checked out my temps and I only hit about 60 degrees on load with my added fan strapped to the heatsink. Before it was around 70 or so without, which is why i thought i had a throttling issue.

Another funny thing happened, I ran 3dmark05 again this morning after ocing the card to 480/1225 and I scored lower than stock speeds. It was around 7560.

Anyone know whats going on? Do Intels really score that much lower than an athlon machine? Even with a lower powered gfx card?

what are some scores of stock 7800gtx on a p4 system compared to mine? I browsed around the 3dmark05 website and think there is room to improve. I just dont know where to go.

Well it depends on alot of factors really, is the anthalon 64 bit?, is it overclcked, is his wid card overclocked, ect...

but generally speaking from a personal standpoint I found Anthalon 64 processors to be better then the p4 I had, games just seem to run better, I duno about benchmarks, i really don't care much for those.

Generaly speaking any A64 in the 2.5Ghz range will run neck and neck with your rig all other things being equal. So I guess the answer is yes.

i am the one you are talking about scoring 8100. my card has no v mods just a general overclock but my amd chip is running at 2700mhz. but for what you have and a 7800gtx you should be getting better scores. but what i see with 3dmark05 is that the default test runs at 1024x768. at this resolution the cpu gets bottlenecked. if you have the advance 3dmark05 try running at 1088x612 as this will move some of the bottleneck more towards the video card. with you having a 7800gtx then you might want to try running the test at an even higher resolution. just for comparison i scored 8058 at default 1024x768 but scored the 8172 at 1088x612. this is where my higher score came from. its not the default test but its still a test so everytime i run 05 i test in 1088x612 now and then compare to 1024x768

most 7800gtx's on amd are getting no less than 8300 from what i have seen. but i am sure there are some out there that get alot less even on a amd machine
