Lo,

My GF3 runs watercooled which is fine, but overclocking the RAM gives a lot more performance than overclocking the chipset.
What I plan is to *actively* cool the RAM on my gfx card. The 2 ThermalTake passive coolers have about 25x50mm size, which is just perfect. I could place 4 25x25mm fans on them, which should make some difference :D

I *know* there are 25mm fans out there. They are built in CD-R drives, modems and other PC and electronics equipment. A fine example are the Papst 255 H cooler (5 m^3/h per fan). But:

WHERE THE HELL CAN I BUY THESE?

I surfed thru various electronic and overclocking shops but could not find any. Did noone ever have the idea to actively cool RAM before?!

My fan on my video card carries some air over my Ramsinks, so I'm content. I've emailed Plextor to see if you can order replacement fans for their drives. They should be 25mm x 25mm

I found the local distributor of Papst fans here in Austria. I emailed him and asked if he could send me some of the 25mm fans. Let's hope he's not some bureaucratic poa :)

Yeah the thing is I am running the GPU *watercooled* so I have no airflow at the RAMs. After all a direct active cooling should be far more efficient anyway.

Why dont you just use a single 80mm fan to cool all of the ram chips?

sure, just tell me where to place it ;) All PCI slots full and mounting it "somewhere" vertical to the PCI slots is neither elegant nor effective.

How about verticaly at the end of the video card.

Another thing you could do is make a waterblock to cool your video ram. It could be pretty simple, just an L shaped piece of copper with a hole through it.

edit: I guess that wouldnt work with most cards, they have capacitors and things between the ram chips.

hehe... you don't know my PC. I got 3 radiators, 2 pumps, a peltier PSU and lots of cables and hosing hangin around. All mounted and transportable (!). This case is *full*.

That RAM watercooling appeals though :) Why not create 2 such waterblocks. All GeForces I know got 2 RAM banks in 5x2.5 dimensions. All you have to do is connect the 2 blocks and let the liquid flow from 1 end of the first to the other end of the second block.

It has been done. Guy on Ars Technica build a full watercooling setup for his video card, GPU and Ram, and damn did it ever look pretty... I don't have the link off hand, but I'll go look in a bit...
Peace

What the heck did you stick in your first PCI slot? ..and better question... why did you stick some thing there?

BGMicro also has 1 inch (25mm) fans. I think they're like 4 or 5 bucks. I don't have a link right now to the exact page, but go to www.bgmicro.com and have a looksie, you might find more than just those fans that you've been looking for...
Peace
