My 6800 Gt is lightly OC'd at 400/1.09 My temp get hot.

IDLE 68 C
LOAD 90+ C

Isnt that to hot?

I can OC it more but it runs to hot. i think i need a new heatsink and cooler for it.

whoa whoa whoa stop what you are doing right now!!!!!!!!!
take your card back to stock clocks and see what the temps are. if they get hotter than 67c then you need a better cooling setup. 70c is about what everyone here will agree on as being a max temp they would recommend. Not sure how hot the 6800 series run but at your temps your gonna kill that thing really fast

Yea its that high with stock speeds(2-3deegree difference), i have artic64 cooler on my CPU and they make a cooler for this card so i think im going to order it and install.

Sounds like you have a case airflow problem if you ask me - seems like that card is suffocating and needs some fresh air.

the 6800gt is well known for running hotter than most cards. my leadtek runs 56-58C idle and 70-80C load. but 68C idle temp is way out of spec.

I fixed it, I removed the heatsink, fan shroud and fan and it was totally blocked with dust bunnies and lint, This card came out of my old pc thats why it was dust bunny haven lol. So i cleaned it and scraped the old compound off and used artic silver while i was in there.

RESULTS:

Just played BF2, and core ran 55c at laod and idles at 45-46c!

SWEET! No need to spend 30.00 on the artic cooler.

nice one! makes me think i should try cleaning out my leadtek and replacing their thermal goo with arctic silver, but i'm paranoid about doing damage & voiding the warranty when i can't really afford to replace it. hmmm... *starts mentally preparing for argument with self*

Its nothing too it, it was like 12 screw total, and my old PC always had dust all in it. i knew that was going to be the problem but didnt want to take it out and look (lazy) so i did and the main heat sink with the small fins wer completly blocked, the fan shroud with the heat sink style fins/deflectors were coverd as well. then i completly covered the chip with AS and put it back together. im glad i did, i was ale to crank my settings back to 408/1.12..off to play........let me know if you clean yours, makes a difference.

Kov: how olds your card?

ok, i went ahead and opened up the card today. there was a goopy grey paste on the core and white stuff on the memory. i replaced it all with arctic silver ceramique. i also left off the fan grill when i replaced the plastic shroud. now it's running about 5 degrees cooler, which i imagine is due to the fan grill since the arctic silver hasn't had time to cure.
