I have come upon a so called dead x800xt. My buddy said he put it in a ASrock sata-2 board and it fried. I put it in my spare and it tells me to connect the power cable, which is ofcourse plugged in. So i clean any AS5 spots on it thinking that its messing it up but it still says i need to connect the cable. Any ideas as to what the prob is or is it time to bring out the dremel and make a keychain? It has a x850xt cooler on it.

Check the molex connector, it might be burnt. If that's the case all you have to do is get a new one and it should be good to go.

I had a simular problem with an old 9700Pro, not sure what happened, but no matter what I did I could not get it to live. Because I bought it refurb from newegg it was dead. It did last about 2 years :) Curious to see what viper says. Post a solution if he gives ya one for future reference.

That is the #1 or #2 most common failure mode for x8xx cards. The card is a goner as even ATI just replaces card RMA'ed with that failure.
