I was wondering if it was worth it to OC the Thunderbird 1.4 as it is at the highest end of that run of chips. Has anyone done it and what were the results?
My system is:
Asus A7A 266 Mobo
AMD 1.4 GHz 266 FSB socket A OEM
512 MB SD Ram
GForce 2 32MB DDR

You've got a good chance of getting 1.5-1.6 GHz out of that chip with no mods/air cooling. The CPU Database says the average OC for that chip is 1612.

I've got a 1.4 unlocked AYHJA. I think most, if not all 1.4s were unlocked. It's running on a Shuttle AK31, 768 Megs Crucial PC2100, CAK38 HSF. I run at 12X133=when I need a little extra speed for compressing large files.

but honestly, in day to day computing, I can tell no difference in 1400 and 1596 MHz.

The Frequency multiple is locked at 10.5 will that nifty #2 pencil trick unlock it? My case is custum with 2x 4" fans on the side, 1x 3" on the top, one in the front (?) and one on the power source. I cant remember what HSF I bought but it's an AOPEN and it was $47 (CAN.) I use Adobe Premier for video editing and would like more speed. I have never OCed before could you walk me through it please.

If you get a retail version of the 1.4 266FSB T-Bird you are pretty much garenteed to hit 1.7-1.8 with a copper heatsink. No mods necessary! Its a great OCing processor, but get the Retail version.
