I didnīt look much in depth into this but if itīs on the Sony site then itīs probably for real. It seems like a great deal to me but now that I look at the current prices of the S series I realize I didnīt notice the drop in notebook prices.
For those that donīt recall, the Sony VGN-S360P (which was IMO the best of the S series) cost between $1600-$1800 when it was around. If the new SZ is any indication of returning to the goodness of the s360 (stellar graphics and battery) then this is a good deal.
Edit: seems Sony charges a lot for shipping and tax ontop of that.

Thatīs the cheapest config with Dual Core and the camera+bluetooth.
Granted itīs a 40GB drive and 512 of Ram (and a CDRW, not DVDRW), itīs really less than minimum, but if you were to sell the parts and buy your own then it would be rather economic. Ram and Hard drives are always priced to the sky.
Essentially, this is a very unique notebook in the fact that itīs extremely light and small, had amazing performance....and still manages some of the best battery life available. Granted the SZ premium is sexier, the normal SZ is still lighter than the older S360.
