View Full Version : Where to put the hd in a cm stacker w/ front mounted bix3?

I have a cm stacker with a bix3 mounted in the front. The bix3 leaves me with only two 5" drive bays. These are taken up by my dvd/cd drive and the stacker's i/o panel. The only tools I own are a drill, wire clippers and a soldering iron so I need to find a place to put it that doesn't involve to much modding.

I've been looking at my case and have thought of a few places but I have no clue if my ideas are any good. I'm relatively new at this so forgive me if they are all terrible.

#1
I could mount it on some 3" screws in the bottom rear of my case where the 2nd power supply would go. This would make my pair of 80mm intake fans double as a hd cooler but it might be bad for the vibration.

#2
I have the i/o panel above the dvd drive and the i/o panel is just a faceplate with loads of wires so I could attach some rubber feet to the hd and sit it ontop of the dvd drive.

#3
I could wire up my own power/reset buttons, mount them in the stacker's plastic topping and put the hd in the freed up bay. This sounds like it would be the most practical solution but I'm not confident that I could cut the plastic accuratly.

Do any of those sound worth pursuing and does anyone have any better suggestions?

Rubber suspension behind the I/O panel sound like the best of those solutions.

You can mount the drive on the 3.5 -> 5.25" adapters behind the I/O panel. It works real nice and saves a space.

Even better... use those adaptors and mount the drive behind the rad so it benefits from the airflow.

I can't believe I didn't think of that but I guess I was kinda close.

I don't think it'd fit behind the rad because I'm using 6 fans with shrouds on either side and it's quite thick.

Thanks for the help as always. :)

Not to hi-jack the thread but where can I purchase 3.5" to 5.25" adapters?

Thanks,

Does your stacker have a second bay for a PSU...could you make up a mount to put it there?
I dunno, I have a Stacker 830...so I only have a single PSU bay
