i recently read the reviews of the 6800gs xxx and opted to get one over my 6800gt.

after buying one i was very dissapointed i droped 10,000 points in aquamark

down 6500 in 3dmark03.

its clocked to 485/110 but im running at 535/1200

my old 6800gt was @ 425/1140 and scoring 85k in futuremark and 17k in 3dmark03, way higher than this card which in reviews was upto scratch with a stock ultra...

i cant update the drivers either, they just wont install, i dont think thats why its running so much worse tho

is there any reason for this?? or anything i can do to rectify...

I've never heard of a 6800GS XXX, but it sounds like something's wrong. It shouldn't be 6500 marks behind your GT.

What does it score?

just a little over 10k,

which loking at other users on futuremark site is low end (normal)6800

the 6800gs xxx is a factory overclocked versoin of the 6800gs

EDIT: 74k futuremark...

did you unlock the pipe and shader?

did you unlock the pipe and shader?

My thoughts exactly. Down 4 pipes and a shader could hinder perforamcen

Although I don't know why you expected better perforamcne.

EDIT: NVM, Higher clocks and if you unlock the pipes itll perform better

CLEAN YOUR DRIVERS

people like to overlook that, you can't just uninstall from the control panel. download drivercleaner pe from www.drivercleaner.net and then uninstall your drivers, reboot, run driver cleaner, and clean nvidia. NOW, install the new drivers, reboot, try the tests again.

i shall try that now although no drivers have been installing AT ALL!

nah can't unlock pci-e, so ur running 4 pipes and 1 shader less but yeah shouldn't be that much of a difference.

i ran 3dmark03 again and got 12840,

this is with stock 3800 @ 2.4
stock card 485/1100 + latest NV driver
1gb value ddr

is this an ok score?

the 6800gs is ok but slower than a 6800gt. Go back to your 6800gt or upgrade to 7800gt ;)

not when you oc both

12-13k in 03 is about right

you can't unlock the pci-e GS... for some reason there's people that go into every GS/GT thread asking about an unlock.

I had trouble with drivers also but the ones off the CD have a higher # than the ones off the nvidea site. Which is really unusual. (They are the 8212's tho)

Actually, at higher speeds, its just as good as a 6800GT, and overclocked like the XFX XXX Extreme edition, it actually beats it in some things.

Going from a 6800GT to a 6800GS is a bit of an odd 'side-grade' though...

yea, something that makes no sense. He can always go back to his 6800gt if he still hasnt sold that. If hes not happy with the 6800gs he can get a 7800gt then

it was mainly an agp to pci-e jump and not really a performance one.

i still have the 6800gt so im thinking i mite build u a new system with a 3200 xp and assu a7n8x-e dlx i have lying arround...

jus need the ddr, may swap the corsair for some better stuff for the time being...
