So I downloaded the Omega Drivers for my Radeon X800PRO tonight, and I just happened to have fallen in love with them. Though I have a problem, when I benchmarked my X800PRO, at X800XT PE speeds, it did worse than a 9600PRO.

Are these benchmarks fictional or what?

Did you have everything set to performance?

Did you have everything set to performance?

Yes, I did actually, but I have AA and AF on max, is that why?

edit: Turned AA and AF off, still no difference.

I also notice in SMARTGART it says my AGP speed is Off, why is this? Is it okay if it's off?

My motherboard supports AGP 8x/4x, and my X800PRO is 8x/4x. Since it's off, am I not getting the most out of my videocard or what?

SERIOUSLY, I really need help now. I tried uninstalling the drivers and I accidentally uninstalled the videocard. Now it's saying "Found New Hardware" and wants me to insert a "ATI Technologies Inc. Installation DISK (VIDEO)" and I don't think I have one. Would it just be the CD it came with?

PLEASE, I really need help.

If you uninstalled the drivers, you could just reinstall the Omegas you were enjoying.

ATi Tray Tools isn't widely used as a benchmark - I would double check your scores with 3DMark2003/2005 just to be sure. If those seem alright, and games act like they should, then the benchmark is probably messing up.

Also, Omega drivers are generally known for increased smoothness and graphics quality, not for benchmark scores. They generally tend to slow down your scores a little in benchmarks because they're not geared like the normal ATi drivers. Keep in mind, though, that you're sacrificing a little performance in terms of FPS for a little increase in smoothness/quality. So they're not benching drivers, they're playing drivers. Not to say that they would cause benchmark results THAT bad...I would guess 2-5% or something.

Thanks, I reinstalled them, everything is fine again (although I'm about to go insane, lmao). But I do have one question, why is AGP Speed off in SMARTGART, I'm guessing that's giving me a big performance hit, right?

I figured out how to get AGP Speed on, I just had to install the latest AGP drivers for my motherboard.

I took the benchmark again and I got a much better score, 5,814. I knew having AGP 8x off would be a huge performance hit.

If you ever feel frisky take a peek at the NGO drivers. They seems to be a good all around optimized ATi driver.

Someday, some people are going to realise that these so called 'optimised' drivers are nothing more than Catalyst drivers with a few .inf modifications, which incidentally, can be made with any semi-decent 3rd party tweaker out there yourself. Then repackaged and given a fancy name to sound good.

Without actually modifying the binaries themselves (which would be copywrite infringement and would actually require some skill), just how do you think they achieve 'better FPS or IQ'??. Simple, sacrifice one for the other. And even then, the differences are minimal at best.

If you suddenly achieve a huge boost in either area by installing any of these, it's because your original driver install was borked. Nothing more.

Well most the optimized drivers don't need the .net to operate. That is the reason I perfer to use them. Myself I could care less about bench score for competeting. I want a driver that gives good stability and easy to get going. Most the modded drivers have been tested and saves me the time in the editor.

If it cost for modded drivers, I would not bother. Since they are free. Nothing lost getting drivers someone has done all the work for me. :D

Also these modded drivers for a while was the only way to get the latest cats on to laptops until ATI started to release cats for mobile cards.

I've used DH zer0point and it's only one still using Radlinker and since I have profiles for everything that's why I still use em.
