According to Microsofts Website "Windows Service Pack Road Map", SP3 for Windows XP will be out in the middle of 2007. More info at the site can be found HERE (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/servicepacks.mspx)
You can also read an article about it at Microsoft-Watch (http://www.microsoft-watch.com/article2/0,2180,1911773,00.asp).

And as to your question about downloading onto a cd, Id venture a guess that SP3 will be available in the same manner as SP2 was when it came out. That included being able to Download it, and/or being available on CD from Microsoft. If it is too big to fit onto a CD, then ofcourse you would have to burn it onto a DVD.

Yeah it looks like there going to wait for Vista to fester a bit first. Then get the big package to XP users. I am thinking one of two things.

1. Force updating to the Vista features slower then just migrating to Vista itself. Basic slowplay tatics.
(I wonder if IE7 will be ready for general use for XP or part of the SP3?)

2. Hold out until the tech that will be part of Vista is proven. Then slide it into a XP SP3 update.

I was under the understanding talking to rep from microsoft that they are taking the resources (manpower) they were using to produce SP3 and shifting it to Vista because it needs to be ready by the beginning of Q3 this year...

lol. I am just saying. I don't trust reps. I called up microsoft once to report a local computer store that sold illegal keys for windows xp, and the guy started called the store, giving them my name, and asking if it was true...

You can get SP2 on CD I ordered a FREE copy from Microsoft.Co.Uk now they are charging you for it I think. SP3 pack will be very buggy when it first comes out it'll stuff up everyone's PC which are still secure with SP2 and are running normal and sweet.

Then MS release SP3 which will cause CD/DVD-ROMs to vanish Modem and Ethernet adapters to not work properly. Sound Cards to go haywire and graphics adapters to bug up and not turn on your monitor after a restart. I'd wait when it does comes out (providing you are still using XP) to wait around 3 months for all the bugs to be fixed.

It'll save you posting on such forums likes these for help (which is what it's for) but all those posts I'm seeing them now.

What!!!! when SP2 came out first thing MS sent me a CD version I installed it and due to that driver protection thing it had in it. My CD-ROM didn't show up in My Computer even my ethernet adapter wasn't in my Device manager.

I had to format my HDD and I waited about 4 months before I re-installed SP2 they took out that driver protection thingy. And my system was alot better than the eariler installation.

IT happens :). I don't know if anythingcame of it though, which is sad... they sold my aunt a serial number that is on a picture I remember. A guy holding up a burned CD of windows XP final and the CD key on it, next to a sign that says Windows xp comes out in 60 days.
