View Full Version : Pentium 2 333 MHZ ooverclock question
Is it possible to overclock a P2 333 mhz processor to 400 mhz or more, and if so, what cooling method would i need to use.

Yeah it is possible. You need to increase the FSB to get it up to 400MHz. Try a 75MHz FSB first and see if it boots fine. If it does go for 83MHz. That should get you to about 415MHz. For cooling I suggest a slot one dual fan heatsink fan. You could put some thermal paste on it, but I really don't think the old P2's heat up that much. Have fun.
Depends what cooler are you using now? And you might want to add better thermal paste if you haven't the one they supply you are horrible ... And probably by now it has dried out.

if you are lucky like i was you should be ablt to drop your mulitplier on that 333...
well if the CPU was made before AUG of 98.....
3x133 = 400 MHz of fun :)
So see if you can drop the multiplier....
And if you tell us what motherboard you have well be able to help you out with the overclocking a bit more.
Aren't the multipliers locked on those thingies?

All P2's will not let you raise the multiplier.....
Some P2's made before Aug of 98 let you lower the multiplier....
So if you are lucky and have an early P2, you can lower the mulitplier and Raid the FSb without any troubles

Thanks for the information, never knew that.

I have a deschutes P2-300 that I used to overclock to 450/100 fsb on my BH6 board. That was it's limit though; I couldn't run it on a 103 fsb reliably. This was a dB0 stepping proc, S-Spec SL2W8, manufactured in Costa Rica. I still have the proc in a drawer at the house.
You can use any hsf made for the slot Athlons for cooling also, they use a heatplate just like the SECC1 pentium 2 procs.
