View Full Version : First Time Overclocker
Hey guys -
I'm new here so don't bash me too hard!
I just got a 1.4 T-Bird with an Epox 8KTA3 Pro mobo. I'm running 768 mb of PC133 SDRAM and Win XP Pro as my OS. The system runs great but I want more!
I have an 80mm fan on front and a 60mm and an exhaust fan on back. The temps are in the mid 30's at idle and high 30's with a load.
I am unfamiliar with overclocking and need help! Is the only thing I have to move is the FSB? It's currently at 133. Your advice is much appreciated!

Welcome to the Forums.
You can change the FSb and the multiplier. Those are good temps for a 1.4 by the way, what heat sink are you using?
Not exactly sure. It was the AMD heatsink that came with the chip.

Try increasing your fsb to start with, but check your temps. You should be able to get 1.5/1.6 out of that chip.
Good luck :D
Any recommendations on how high for the FSB? What should be a max temp for me to look at without worrying too much? Thanks!

Try and keep your temps below 50c and take your fsb as high as it will go. My fsb is at 147mhz at the minute and am using a x11 mutliplier. A few people have got fsb's above 160
What is worst case of the FSB or the multiplier being too high? Will it fry?

Some times a high fsb will screw your data up on your hd.
Try to increase the FSB in your BIOS 1MHz at a time & make sure to always check for stability every time. Also when you get some instability you will need to up your VCore. When you start to run faster you will need more juice to get that baby goin:cool: Be sure to always monitor your temps. Sometimes you can get a little bit more FSB with a little more voltage to your RAM.
