View Full Version : How to launch the PSU without having it hooked up to a PC?
I am replacing the fan inside my spare 400 watt psu before swapping it and I'm curios if I could turn on the PSU without having it be connected to a PC?
Short out the green and white wire, on the main connector, with a paper clip and make sure it's plugged into the wall.

It's green and black wire ;)
Actually, I think that there's a few combinations that work. Green and white seems to work on my 20-pin PSU.

I just tried the green and black wire trick the other day and it worked great on amy 24 pin PSU.

Being old fashioned, at least old, I got a PS tester a while back for about $10. Costs a bit more but foes two jobs.

I use this. http://www.jab-tech.com/ATX-power-supply-starter-with-jump-wire-pr-2379.html
Dont have to worry about the wire falling out while testing.
