1,2 GHz Athlon with 256 Mb DDR RAM or 1,4 GHz Athlon with 512 Mb SDRAM ? For FPS games and let's say 3D Studio Max.

the ram is pratically the same price, so go 1.4 with 512pc-2100, that is only about $160.
Um how do they even compare?
I ccould see if it was 1.2 with 512 and 1.4 with 256
but seeing your set up you want - I am guessing you run an old rig right now. either wayt is fast and with current costs I would go 1.4 with 512 - more is always better.
just make sure you do not go cheap on the video card and mother board - otherwise you will chokoe out the performance ...

Umm. The truth should be self evident. I suggest an Athlon XP 1500+ instead of a T-Bird 1.4 Gig. Even better, a 1600+ XP. So far, DDR doesn't make much of a difference, at least in my humble K7 rig.
1.2GHz with 512DDR. You can always clock the CPU to 1.4GHz:D DO NOT BUY A CHEAP MoBo!!!!
with Max you can never have enough ram. My friend who does game design uses a gig of ram and say he could use more!!! get the 1600 at newegg for 127 shipped and the ram at crucial through this link if it only give 10% off try looking for my link in cyber deals.
