DDR2 boards backward compatible?

Is it possible to use my DDR PC3200 memory on a newer board that supports DDR2 like say the Asus P4WD2-E?

No. Different pin configuration altogether. DDR is 184. DDR2 is 240.

Oops typo yeh I mean P5. No go, ok. Do any of you guys use DDR2? Noticeable performance gain? Reccommended? DDR2 is outrageously expensive from what I've seen although it is tempting since AMD is going to be using it for their new architecture.

Clearly it hasnt been recentally. You can get a nice 2GB kit for around $180

I work for a memory retailer and wouldn't trust the DDR to DDR2 converters for day to day performance. I know we had some to do testing but they were finicky to say the least and that was while testing. I can't imagine how they would act under load during games or something. Kind of a silly idea too what with DDR2 memory being about the same price as DDR anyhow.

Can't see the performance increase being noticeable enough to merit the cost of these adapters. Whatever that may be.

It's not so much the price of the DDR2 versus DDR memory as they are nearly the same, I just can't justify the adapter cost.

In my opinion, if you want the DDR2 performance, get a DDR2 board and use DDR2 memory. I'm waiting for the AMD support myself, that will be keen.

i paid 138.99 for 2 gigs of G.skill ddr2 533. some guys have got it to around ddr2 775 though, but have really high timings(5-5-5-15)
