View Full Version : Embarking to Overclock my Athlon 600 / Abit KA7 - Advice welcome

Hello OC folks, As my subject states I've got my Athlon 600 / Abit KA7 system stable and would like to push it beyond it's normal bounds. I've included my system specs in my profile so I don't have to enter them each time. I should add that my CPU fan is a heatsink with dual fans. My prelude steps to overclocking are to:
1. Add a case fan to increase ventilation
2. Install the temperature wire to my processor and software to monitor it. (is this neccessary?)
After I get that done,
1. Slowly increase my core voltage and monitor stability and temperature. I'm not sure how high to expect to be able to raise this to. The database on this site indicates some have this combo upto 900mhz. Any advice welcome here....
2. ?? Are there other options in the bios that I should look at changing??
Any advice, help, or previous experiences are most welcome.
Thanks, Fred

First off welcome to the forums!!!!
You sound like you know what your doing.
Install the temperature wire is not necessary but a good idea.
Bios, check your cass settings for your memory, bump it up to 2 to run faster, but if you have problems put it back down it dont help that much..
HTH.

NC Fred welcome to the forums, I am sure you can say more than just * bump * on your second post!! ;)
If your mobo has an FSB dip switch or something fiddle with that and up the fsb a bit, and see how far you can push it make sure you have good RAM CAS2 is best and make sure your PSU is good too.
NC FRED,
I don't know if this will help you but this is the results of some of my experiments with my 600. First I unlocked the processor (L1 via the pencil trick). Once that worked I rasied the Vcore voltage specs say mine should be 1.5 to 1.7. I closed both L7 cuts the voltage went to 1.84 (not good) I decided against that and settled for the middle 1.6 it's stable and stays cooler. I quit at the higher setting it was unstable and getting hot. At the highest settings I got 863.46Mhz System clock 132.84 System bus 265.68 Multipier 6.5.
Hope this helps.

I belive NC Fred has a SLOT A Athlon, not socket A, but if this is thunderbird Slot A we are talking then Im guessing they had bridges.

You are correct, I have a slot A Athlon. Considering that I'm using an overclocker type board (abit KA7), I figured some experts out in this community could tell me what setting to reasonably expect with standard cooling.....
