I was looking at the various 6xxxx series cards. Can someone list them in order of most powerful, best for gamming ect? I would be comming from a 6600gt as an upgrade. Thanks.

personally since you already have a pci-e motherboard then why not get a 7800gt???? I mean you want the best 6 series card and that would be the 6800ultra and your gonna pay almost as much for it as you would a 7800. And besides if you can run SLI 2 7800gt's do a bang up job as far as pricevsperformance. Just my opinion though.

just looking at nvidia.....I do understand the concept, if you are going to spend this much money then go to this one, but, you can keep doing this just to have the best thing. I am looking for the best bang for the buck for someone wanting to upgrade from a 6600gt

Yeah, if you're running PCI-E, it would be a terrible judgement call to get a 6-series card.

I would also recommend the 7800GT over any of the 6 series. The 7800GT is only a little bit more and performs quite a bit better than even a 6800 Ultra

The 6800 GS might also be something to look at...in the benches I've looked at the difference in performance(in BF2 1280x1024/1600x1200 with x4AA, 16x Aniso, Xbit labs is the source) was only about 10FPS over the 7800GT but the price difference is about $100. Something to think about.
Imo you should stick to 6600gt for a while. Sure it cant get 100fps with everything on high but you can still play any game with high quality graphics and no lag.
I saw some posts about dx10 and shader 4.0 comming out and only the next generation cards will be compatible aparently.
The pre release information given by ati and nvidia on their next generation cards is rather insane. Gddr 4 insane clock speeds/pipes multiple gpus per card etc.
Will make the gtx 512 look like an old voodoo card if it comes out the way they're saying it will lol
I got my 7800gt and love it but the big plan was to eventually get another one for SLI when this gets a little too slow to my liking. But with dx 10 comming out we might not have the coice to switch over to the next gen cards before next year :(
This keeps up ill quit gaming altogether...keeping an up to date rig capable of adequate gaming is almost as expensive as my motorcycle mods :P (altho if i was richer theres no way in hell the pc could cost anywhere near what id do to my bike muahha)
*drools at the thought of richness*
ahhhh dual vj moded 7800gtx 512 on an athlon rig and a 500hp motorcycle what more could a man wish for? hmm maybe more motorcycles i guess :P

Well unless the game is 100% DX10/SM4.0 then we won't HAVE to upgrade, im sure games will continue to support older DX versions... most games aren't even 100% sm3.0... like, maybe a handful of games utilize it... I don't see a big deal here, it's nothing unlike any other dx version, if the hardware doesn't support it, of course it won't work and you would have to upgrade.
