Just a heads up to any and all of you who are Folding on a Linux box.
The latest version, of the core at least, has been compiled with the Intel compiler. Not sure about the older core's but if they used the old compiler then this would almost surely translate into a speed increase.

Ok good to know I will be sure to get new cores for my two systems. I will try and get foldmonitor going one see if I can tell a differance.

Thanks for the update.

Look like OCAU has ramped back up now :( Fold fold fold!

Does this mean a speed increase for windows users?
Folding as fast as I can we need more Folders:D

Nah. Just Linux. ;)

Not sure how long the latest core has been out though. Worse case scenario, it's the same speed as before. The code for the compiler is probably not all that different than the windows version and, being newer, could be a little faster. Don't have Linux installed on anything right now but that will change if the times are even close.

That would be good, I 'll check tomorrow on my linux box to see if I can find any time difference.

Very cool. Hopefully it's close to the same speed as windows.

Is the Linux client not stable? I really want to try it out, but not messing with it too much until the new duallie AMD boards come out.

I've had less problems with the Linux client than the Windows one.

I finally was able to test it out today. After downloading the new core i get about 170 seconds quicker per frame on a 100 frame 500,000 step villian. This is on a 1ghz PIII running Mandrake 8.1

Comparing it to a PIII 800 on Windows ME folding a 100 frame 500,000 step villan the linux box is about 85 seconds quicker than the PIII 800.

Bascially breaks down to 575 seconds on linux box after and 745 seconds before.

It takes 660 seconds on the PIII 800.

I can't make my brain to work so I can't figure out if the linux box is as fast as the windows one if you compared them at equal processors. I don't think it quite is but it sure is alot closer.

Thanks for the heads up Lews. :)
It looks like it's only about a 5% difference that could very well make up for itself with increased stability and less overall hassle.

I went to check on my Dual 1Ghz Morgan Durons running win2k and they do a frame in about 350 seconds on the identical protein (100 frame 500,000 step villan).

Man how I wish I could change all these machines to amd :).
