right now im at 10x153 turbo settings,. cas2 4 bank interleave and 1tcommand rate. 200/465, vsync off, set to best performance

it is same as before but i had to reinstall OS, before reinstall it was a 66FPS in beginning of Game 1 3dmark2k1 now its 51FPS instead!!! That is a big difference, and i know its set exactly the same cause i wrote my settings down, becuase those were the max that i could run stable, so what am i missing-Windows 2000

same drivers 21.85 det 4's and VIA 4.35v finals??

Did you play with the 3dMark settings ever? Or just use default?

I remember that the order of driver installation played a role in setting up my system with an nvidia card and w2k...

VIA drivers, then Directx, then video.

got it back up to 67 FPS to start test, yesi dont use default its 800x600 32bit, 32 bit not compressed, and that is about it 5299 3dmarks in 2001

how is that? can u explain it a bit more - how much difference made it? i always take care about the order i install all the drivers and softwares.. anyway can someone explain why directx before the video card drivers?

Well many video drivers now require DirectX 8 for example, therefore unless you're using XP you'd need to update the DX version you have already installed with Windows.

Oh and [OC] Jason, why do you run 3dMark in 800x600, people generally only regard benchmarks at default setting to be worth anything. Unless it's just personal preference I guess.

i run at 800x600 because that is what i play games at, so i want the most possieble FPS at theat resolustion. I can care less what others think due to my benchmark res, i mean i want it to look good for what i do, and i plat at 800x600 so that is the res that i tweak and bench for. Just my personal preferance

It's more experiential than factual.

If I really knew the programming how's and why's I'd probably be making twice my salary with IBM, Novel, or Microsoft :p.

ok. but do u know how much increase in performance u got from doing that?

My theory is this:

1 - VIA drivers are needed anyway for system performance and the AGP driver update/setup as turbo, etc.

2 - Directx works with some of the VIA drivers and is used by the video card, so it seems fair to installing them AFTER the VIA drivers but before the video.

3 - Video drivers utilize both the above drivers, so installing them last allows windows to learn how to get them playing nice together...

This isn't necessarily a performance modification, but I found that during installations if I loaded directx last, or video drivers first, the performance would falter. This was especially true with an older OS, like 95/98/NT 4.0 . Again, experiential and not very scientific (that's how most of us tweakers get by :)).

You, on the other hand Otto, love to know the how's and why which is why I adore reading some of your posts... you typically ask the questions I don't even think to... I just want my PC to run efficiently and care little as to why (since in 2 years it will all be old technology anyway ;)).

ok. i made that yesterday.
used to let GART to be installed after directx and video driver: vid > directx8 > gart - when using w2k pro. your way is a lot more logical despite the performance kept the same.
