Hey guys, now that i fried my k6-2 (I hit 660 off a 500 chip... was going for 700+... couldnt quite make it) But .... I was thinking of just getting a new cpu, How are the durons for overclocking? Do those run at 200 bus speeds? I would really like to keep the motherboard and cpu together below 100 bucks. If some people have some good suggestions... please tell !

Thanks

If you go to pricewatch.com and click on motherboard and cpu combos it brings up a list...

duron runs at 100fsb double pumped. so ya. you're right.

Duron's don't over clock usually as well as tbirds. I gig tbird is a great overclocker if you get a good stepping.

You looking for ddr board or sdram?

and you could get a ecs k7s5a mainboard to go with your duron. i heard they are good, but i dont own one. they are definatly a lot of bang for the buck.
i'd try to get the 1000mhz duron, they use the morgan core which is based on the new xp cpu. but that will put over $100. it will be worth it,though.

you can get the ecs ks75a board for $57 at neweggg.com-cant beat the price!! If you do get this board you will have to flash the bios to get any oveclocking out of it. It is a very stable board and accepts both sdram or ddr. DDR from crucial is cheap 29.95 for 286 and no shipping charges. Ive got this board with an 800 Duron and it never hiccoped once then I got an XP 1800. now im rebuilding the durnon to fold and my HD arrives tomarrow and thats all Ill need to complete the system.

Good luck -you can't go wrong with this board

I saw the duron 1gHz on pricewatch for 53, that mobo k7s5a for about 55 ....so with shipping ... probably not too far over a hundred... But is this the same 1gHz you were talking about?

sushiman, yes the 1ghz durons are all the same. they are basiccly a xp with half the cache. with the ecs mobo for $100 thats a real nice system. all the durons below 1ghz are like baby t-birds above 1ghz and the durons are baby palaminos.
