View Full Version : Celeron advice needed
Time for me to upgrade again. I went from a Celeron 300A@525 to a Celeron 566@975. Now I'm looking at the new 100mhz FSB Celerons, drooling.
Which one would you guys suggest? I'd like one that will hit 133FSB, if possible- maybe a 900? Are all the 900s the new cD0 stepping, or should I request the place I order it from to check for me?
And how imortant is the S-spec anyway? Intel's charts say that the only differance between cD0 CPUs of the same speed is the core voltage. 1.70 vs 1.75. Is that important?

i hear the 800cDos are nice and i think that woith the 900s youre almost guaranteed a cDo.......
I found a link to the Intel s-spec sheet: http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec/icp.htm
Looks like 800+ is cD0 guaranteed. For some reason the I can't get into the CPU databse right now- will an 800 or 900 hit a 133FSB? My video card doesn't much like running out of spec.
All Celly 900's are cD0 steppings.
The 800 hab been guaranteed to hit 1.1ghz I believe and 900mhz are the cD0.
thanks for the advice. That Intel link I posted had all the codes and such in it. Now my question is-
would I even notice a difference over my current rig- Celeron 566@975-115mhz FSB?

yes big difference, mostly because you will probably be able to get the fsb up, your memory scores will go up and ytou agp bus and stuff like that.....also you should be able to get the new chip to 1.2 with a decent heatsink...so yes its worth the money....but if you have a compatible motherboard the Celly 1.2 looks really sweet....
Great, that's what I was hoping. I guess I'll get an 800 or 850- they are the cheapest, and will let me boost the FSB as high as possible. I hope 150mhz bus is attainable!:) I'd rather have more FSB than a higher mhz speed.

Mind that both 800 and 850 come as cCO and cDO, 900 and above are all cDO's. Try to get a 850 or 900 cuz above these speeds the multiplier get to high to reach 133FSB easily. Good luck, and let us know what happens, ok?!
Good luck... ....
Get back to us soon :D
hmm, according to that sheet Intel they DID make a cC0 800 and 850 part. Thanks for the warning Lancelot! I didn't notice that the first time I read the sheet. Maybe I should just get the 900; that one only came in the cD0 flavor. Ahh screw it, it's only a few bucks more, I guess that's the one for me. That, and an SVC Golden Gate HSF- only 12 bucks!!:D
boy, I am such a cheap-ass guy. One of these days I'll get an actual Pentium CPU instead of Celerons- naaaah, probably not!:D
