View Full Version : Internet surfing slowdown

I just built my new rig (see sig) and decided to switch over to XP after a long run with 2K. After running the PC for awhile (usually 12 hours or more), my internet surfing slows to a crawl - I can barely even load a web page - it takes 5 minutes or more.

I was ready to call my ISP and complain when I noticed that I could still download via FTP at full speed. I tried a reboot and lo and behold, the internet surfing issue was gone. My IE version is 6.0.2900*.

Has anyone else had this strange problem or heard about it and can offer some insight? Thanks.

I should also point out that when I had XP's error reporting service on, the error reporting service would kick in right after the slowdown started.

I can offer advice:

Use Mozilla Firefox or Opera

lol Well I do have Firefox, just a matter of getting into the habit of using it regularly. At the moment, I only use it occasionally. It would be nice to figure this issue out anyway. :)

As for Opera, I pushed it aside during v7.x as it crashed constantly. I haven't given v8.x a go yet.

Are you using Adware or some other antispyware program? Could be some junk trying to highjack you.
