ARRRRRRRR! Now i'm not getting my new system until the end of November! My dad won't let me spend MY money. On top of that I might get 1 WU per day(if that)done until then because my mom keeps turning off the comp at nights and when i go to school. She won't let me keep it on ARRR! Sorry guys i'm not going to be doing much for a while.
heeh. no worries. Look forward to the new machine. it's only a couple of weeks.

That's bunk ! :(
Did you tell your mom why you want to leave the computer on. I'd think that explaining you are helping to find a cure for cancer and other diseases might sway her.
Worth a shot...;)

First I told her that the computer was folding and she looked at me really funny. Then I told her it was burning in(since f@h does do this well) and she almost grounded me! She thought i was killing it or something. I had to go to school so i left after that but i'll try and explain it more 2night but i don't think she'll go for it:rolleyes:.
My wife's more worried about the 'puter room getting so bloody hot from the two rigs running than the electric bill I think...lol
*scratches head*
(Hmmmm...it IS awfully WARM in here...:p )

Where you are that should be a blessing in the winter ;) . You should vent that heat in to your heating / hot water system. Perhaps put a small solar cell outside to power the computer, then capture the heat for other use...

Or not
:D
Works great for me, at least in the winter. I can shut all the vents upstairs where my computers are and use my ceiling fan to spread the heat around. We're able to keep the heat pushed back downstairs when we're not down there, so I'm actually saving money by folding! :D

how about this... try telling her in DETAIL about it. dont tell her things she cant understand... she doesnt know what the he** you are saying if you tell her you are "burning in my new unlocked tbird". that doesnt make sense to her, or most people. instead, tell her you are testing its reliablility by giving it constant workload.
and instead of saying "folding", show her the website, and explain it to her. if YOU dont know what it is, find out first, then explain it to her. most won;t object, unless you are just really mean to her. be nice to your parents. it gets you somewhere, trust me. try to help her out. she's doing it for a reason, not just to make your life hard.
Here is a good thread with which to educate your mother, and perhaps yourself? Thanks to Yman for putting it together.

ok seriously i am nice to my mom. I admit i tease her now and then but it's nothing bad or anything. I actually told her in detail what it's doing today and she said she might leave it on. Came home and it was on! Even though i doubt it'll be like this everyday she atleast left it on. But the reason I said that to her is because she's always doubting me on my computer knowledge. I know it's not a lot but I know what i'm doing when i do things. It just kinda makes me a little upset when she does it so i tease her a little(teasing is basically what i said i did above). ANYWAY, this box should fold close to 24/7 now(hopefully) and i'll have the other at the end of this month so fold on!
Glad to see that you got that worked out and that you're nice to your mom. :)
I'd have paid to have seen her face though when you told her you were burning in the computer especially since she didn't know what that meant. ;) lol.

yeah i had that same problem, my dad didn't like my puter being on all the time, but i told him about f@h and he said it was a good cause.
WTG, ]-[itman. I'm older than your mom and I still tease my mom, especially about computer stuff! Seriously, though. Parents are usually reasonable people, and I'll bet she's secretly proud of what you know and what your doing on the folding team. Glad you got it worked out.

LOL Mr B
Why dont you duct all the fans blowing out on your rigs to your other rooms so that your house gets warmed by the hot air from the rigs!!
actually turning the machine off and on every day is bad for a computer. Electronics don't like thermal cycles. So, if you're going to use your computer a couple times a day, it's not good to turn it off and on like a mad man. But, a lot of people don't or won't understand this.
Guess it's a toss up, thermal cycles or powerbills.
grin. My machine is on 24/7

It is because when your comp is on the temp is in a constant so the electric inside is always flowing cpus don't being warmed up and then cooled down as this means that it is constantly expanding and contracting which is bad for a cpu
