View Full Version : Which of these memory sets is best?

I have to rma the memory I bought because I'm not going to use the config I bought (4x512MB).

I can spend around $270 on memory, and I have made some picks, (though these are all under my budget) but I'd like opinions on which is best. Just pretend you're me and you have the DFI NF4-D, 3700+, 7800GT but you need to pick a nice set of 2x 1GB sticks for what you have to spend, so you can get going on your build. Which set would you pick?

They all seem to be BE-5 based, so they should perform similarly. I would go with the Mushkin linked above though, since imho Mushkin's customer service cannot be beat.

^^ Thanks! I've added that set to my list for consideration...because they have it in stock, unlike ZZF. Cheaper too...

Cool, I couldn't find much info on the BE-5 chips unfortunately, results seem mixed, but they do seem to do tighter timings than the other chips used in 1GB sticks, and from what I understand, timings are more important than FSB for A64s.

I'd stay as far away from ZZF as possible. They have extremely poor customer service (almost none at all), are very rude on the phone, and take forever to refund your money.

In short...

DO NOT GO WITH ZIP-ZOOM-FLY!!!

That's the exact memory that I have coming in today. Hopefully it gets here early because I also have two Barracuda HDDs to install as well, which are coming in that same package. :)

Ordered my RAM from ZZF, got it 3 days from order date with free shipping. No hassel and packaged well.

Ordered my northbridge heatsink from ZZF. Received it 3 days from order day with free shipping. No hassel. I think maybe you shouldn't judge a company based on one experience... I have had over 15 transactions with newegg and all have been very good, even RMA'd a non working CPU and still got charged 15% restock fee because I wanted a different CPU instead and asked for a refund.

ZZF has been good to me, just didn't deal with their customer service so I have no idea how it is. I will continue to buy from them over newegg when the prices are cheaper. Will buy from newegg when prices are cheaper there.

These use the same chips as Crucial Z503 PC4000:

After ordering on Jan 18th and waiting for the 5 day period for the e-check to clear (not including a weekend), they shipped my order on the 27 (per my request because I was out of town for a few days), and I got it on Feb 1st. I requested an RMA for the memory on the 2nd, and I have not heard from them about it yet.

It's been 12 days into the RMA request period, and I'm starting to wonder if I'll hear anything from them. Do I have any recourse if they don't give me an RMA# before the end of the 15 day period? I think I may call them tomorrow about it. Hopefully, they won't give me a hard time.

Thanks. I already have their number programmed into my cell. I got home too late to call them today, but I get some down time at work sometimes, so I'll definately be giving them a jingle. Let's just say I'll have my RMA by the end of tomorrow... :argue:
