I am not sure if I should get a X800GTO2 or a X1800XL 256. Whats your opinions on the two cards. Obviously I am going to flash the GTO2 over to 16 pipes. Best Buy has the X1800 XL for sale for 319 which doesnt seem like to bad of a price.

That was probally one of the dumbist questions I have ever asked... Do they overclock well??

not a dumb question but the two cards are not in the same class or generation. The X1800XL has the same core as the X1800XT. They don't overclock as well or perform as well as the X1800XT. But even a weaker XL will perform better than any of the X800/X850 cards.

The GTO2 isn't really such a good deal anymore (it was when the X850 and X18XX series cards were more expensive). Definitely go for the XL

One more question... would I still be able to use my AIW as well as the X1800 on my DFI board?

Also, do you think my PSU will be good enough for this card?

people stopped caring about the x800gto2 when they can get an x850xt for $20 more. I never cared about the x800gto2. Id rather get an x800xl which is 16 pipes out of the box

or I could have bought the x800GTO2 and gotten 2 sixers of Guinness Extra Stout with the 20 dollars I saved from not buying the 850! If people stopped "caring" about the x800 GTO2 explain why the x800GTO2 thread gets bumped up to the top quite regularly?

Well... I just ordered the X1800 XL from Best Buy. I should have just got the X1900, but my credit card would have exploded I think. Anything has to be better then the AIW X600Pro that I have right now. :)

Doesnt the GTO2 clock better then the XL also??

lol.... that's an understatement. My old XL still ranks pretty high on the ORB and the core went up to 480........ My GTO˛ before voltmodding went up to 560. I paid $280 for my XL when it first came out and paid $200 for my GTO˛. Only Overclocker550 would say something that stupid.

I thought I remeber him saying something dumb like that before... So I see there is a X800 and X1900 thread (both started by you) Wheres the x1800 thread?

Disagree with oc550 , but do not flame .
I sort of understand where he is coming from in that the X800XL is a sure thing . When I was in the market , at the $$ I intended to spend it was either a X800 Xl or the 12 pipe but moddable X800 Pro VIVO . Then a forum member informed me that the X800 Pro VIVO mod only worked with AGP systems so I went with a 'sure thing' ( X800 XL) . I however later began to kick myself when I realised that the forum member was wrong and the PCI-E pro vivo cards mod to XTPE boards quite well  . But such is life .
Considering how easily moddable the X800 GTO2 is , the relatively low failure rate , and the fantastic overclockability and low price there is frankly no good reason to buy ANY vcard below the X1800Xl or 7800GT other than a X800GTO2 . ( Unless one is looking at an even lower price point. ) End of story .
So OC550 I will have to disagree with you too .
Yea i just bought an X800GTO2 because it was over $100 cheaper than an x1800xl and this particular model is coming out of the box 16 pipes 100% of the time (sapphire PCI-E LE card)
the PCI-E pro vivo cards mod to XTPE boards quite well  . But such is life .
OT, but I have never seen this happening. Only a lot of urban legend.

one has to remember that OCC550 is a vid card bottom feeder. funny, he got on this upgrade path with the 939 back in the first 939 days, got several 939 CPU's, kept the best, finally got decent ram and a halfway decent MB, yet..............
when it comes to vid cards.....................

I believe the only moddable PCI-e 12 pipe ATI cards are x800GTO2's and maybe the x850 pro.

X1800XL is a great choice, as things are overclocking beasts. I sitll have yet to OC mine though.
Not like I'm going to net any noticeable performance boosts anyways, all my games get me 60+ FPS at stock speeds. :)

heh, OCC550 does have some serious video card issues...no point in running a top notch system which is bottlenecked by a card 3 generations old

I keep my cpus up to date for fast performance in everything and not just games. People forget the cpus are good for everything and not just games. As for video card, I think ill spend the extra $20 for a real x850xt which is 16 pipes and higher clocks out of the box. Its like someone buying a 2GHz cpu for $20 less and trying to unlock 1 meg cache and overclock it to 3GHz when I can get a 3GHz cpu with 1mb cache out of the box, see my analogy?

Or... I'll just buy the X1800 and hopefully blow an X850XT outta the water... Thanks for your opinions OC, but that wasnt even part of my question to begin with. I had two options, either the X800GTO2 or X1800 XL. That was it. No X800XL, No X850XT.

Just got my card in the mail today... all I can say is WOW. This is soo much faster then my old X600. It runs pretty hot though.
