the problem i'm having is it wont let me overclock it more then 750 mhz.and by bios wont let me do anything with the cpu. somebody told me intel put some kind of lock on the cpu
is this true and how do i get rid of the lock?I asked everybody and nobody knows how.

Welcome to the forums!

Ahh, the age-old Intel question!:D Sorry, but there is no way to remove the lock. Trust me, we've been trying for years. Here's how it works- your CPU has a built-in unchangeable value- the multiplier. Your motherboard controls the Front Side Bus (FSB). The CPU "talks" to the rest of the system, mainly RAM, over the FSB. Depending on the motherboard, you may have a little or a lot of control over the FSB's value. Multiply the CPU's value- the multiplier- by the FSB to determine your new, overclocked speed.

Your P3 650 has a multiplier value of 6.5, and is intended to run on a 100 mhz bus. 6.5 times 100 is 650mhz, see? Bump the FSB to 133 and it will be 864mhz. Not all motherboards have a good selection of FSBs, some only have the standards- 66, 100, and 133mhz. Also, in order to achieve a stable increase, you will probably have to increase the core voltage of the CPU a little bit. Again, not all motherboards can adjust the core voltage.

hmmm, a long-winded reply by me- I hope it helps.

Your in luck when it comes to playing with your system's front side bus (FSB) Gigabyte makes a program called Easy Tune III that allows you to enter the FSB you wish to run and then checks the system to see if it will run "stable" at that setting. If so, it increses your FSB to the value you chose. It also has and option for auto optimise that allows the program to select the FSB that is most likely to run stable without any problems. You can download Easy Tune III off of Gigabytes website www.giga-byte.com

Welcome to the forms.

Remember Multiplyer * Front Side Bus = Cpu speed

also remember that when you increse your FSB you not only effect your cpu but all your PCI and AGP cards as well. They all run off the FSB.
AGP = 66mhz default
PCI = 33mhz default

What cooling are you using? Have you flashed your bios to the most recent?
