My WD 120 gig drive randomly starts to shut off then spin up again multiple times then it'll not do it for maybe even hours but during the time it's doing this I can't access it. I haven't had read/write errors or corrupted data... Is it salvagable (I bought a 320gig just in case) for another computer? or is the drive a goner and it's just a matter of time?

is it the IDE one by any chance? if so, its probally the same hard drive i have. lol

It sounds like it's starting to die, so I would play it safe and backup anything of importance on that drive.

Yeah, I would say it is definitely starting to die. Get that data off as quick as you can. You never know when that thing will finally go once and for all.

The problem is that I have no room anywhere else to put the data on it... it's the largest drive in the house.

Yeah it's the Ide one.
