I know they have that joke of a remake of FF7 thats coming out, but why dont they remake FF7 exactly the same as it was on PSX, but with PS3s graphics? Like what they did at one of th expos, they ran the FF7 intro remade by the PS3.. but they said they wouldnt actually carry on with it! Arrgg i dont know why i thought about it, but it randomly occurred to me that it would totally rock, and id probably buy a PS3 for that (as i have no other want for it)

more of a reason for them to Re-make it.
we all KNOW the game will sell off of shelves faster than HALO 2 did. The game will probably break Halo 2's Pre-order record.
and Square-Enix knows this could bring in some HUGE income.
Look at the facts
1: The Put cloud, Aerith and sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts. That created a huge fan-base reaction, and those 3 characters ALONE helped out the american Sales.
2: The create Advent Children. A movie based off the game. That just floored everyone. we didn't really see that comming. the movie ( as far as i know ) is doing quite well in japan. and MANY americans are still waiting in anticipation for it to release here in america.
3: The announce Dirge of Cerberus. A video game Based off Vincint. A Character in Final Fantasy 7. even though he was an optional character, he's still a huge fan favorite.
4: Cloud will re-appear in Kingdom Hearts. No reports of Sephiroth though. This time though, cloud will appear as the Advent Children version, instead of the Kingdom Hearts Version of cloud.
5: The release a PS3 Tech Demo using the opening scene of FF7 to show us what they can do with the new PS3 hardware. yet they say they have no current plans to re-make the game.
After viewing that info, at least to ME, it appears they are building up anticipation. They are Re-introducting FF7 into the picture again. They are showing some of the newer players out there that there is still a great game out there, just waiting for them to play. And they are building up the anticipation, the hope, and the want for a Re-make.
In the end, that will result in HUGE sales that could beat out any game in recorded history. ( according to sales that is ). at least, i believe that a Re-make could sell that many copies.
As i said, i think they are building up to a gigantic release. Dunno when they might release the game. Just wondering if they are going to keep this super top secret untill its nearly done. Or if they would release info way ahead of time like they did with Dirge of Cerberus.
I still have hope that one day they will re-make it. i just think they are waiting for that perfect time.

I love this thread...everyone said i was crazy when watching the tech demo for the PS3 with ff7. I have been a huge fan of FF games...cept now with the 10.5/11/ and none turn based 12 :P but i STILL play 7/8/9/10.
If they did re make 7 i would buy a PS3 JUST for that game. Anyone else?

FF7 is a great game. It would be nice if they remade it for the PC. I still have the original version and it really has a hard time running on the latest hardware. One good thing about not having a remake is that you can sell your copy on eBay for $50-60!
I'd die if they actually remade FF7 with better graphics, it deserves it.

I wish they would hurry up and release advent children.. I mean I have the japanese version with english subs and I love it. And if they do release a remake for the ps3 i just hope that they wait until the price of the ps3's drop a little so I can actually afford it.. lol
Why don't remake all the old Final Fantasy games? Don't get me wrong if I had to choose one to remake it would be 7. But FF4-6 are just as deserving of a remake as 7 is.

One of the problems with the PS3 though, is going to be its price point. Games like Halo 2 sold a lot because at the time the XboX was available for $120 plus $40 for the game. For such a combo, you're looking at AT LEAST $400 + $60 (PS3 game price point). That's well out of most peoples budgets.
I'd die if they actually remade FF7 with better graphics, it deserves it.
Might as well schedule your funeral now :D Nobody takes the time to do that much work and throws it away (regarding the tech demo) It would make no sense whatsoever if they dont release anytime soon.

I personally think it would be a disappointment no matter what. It's the same reason Blizzard isn't rushing to put out Starcraft 2: it's hard (nigh impossible) to expand upon perfection. Any new version of such a beloved game will never fully capture the experience of the first.
IMO, the best thing they could do is retouch it graphically but otherwise leave it exactly the same. Better yet, make it a 3d on 2d background game, I always loved that style, it really lets the artists run wild.

well, they could also add voice acting too.
that wouldn't bother me at all, unless the screw up on the voices...and if they screwed up sephiroth's voice...i'd be quite un-happy.
But one thing to point out...
When the PS2 came out, Square did the same thing. they released a tech demo, using FF8. The dancing scene between squall and rinoa. People flipped out and thought they was going to do a re-make. But they never did.
But then again, there were alot of rumors floating around that square was planning on a remake of a few of their older games. including 7, and 8. But they dropped the idea, since they lost so much money on The spirits within movie that they made.
not sure how true that rumor is. Since it was only a rumor. but rumors is all we have to go off of.

Amen.
FF4 or FF5 updated would be really interesting.

See Halo 2. (disgrace to all that was Halo 1).
After Halo 2, I'm fine with the originals- sequels are hard as hell to make anyways , yet alone remaking a game of a great game.

Ughh.. i just really hope you guys are right and they dont decide to throw the idea away.. I still really like FF7, advent children was alright, mainly because of Vincent (i reckon they did him very well) but they completely screwed up Tifa imo.. she doesnt look anything like in the original game, and this would be one of my fears if they ever remade it, is that they would use the FF7:AC Tifa instead of making it look like the original Tifa. But yo gotta admit, it would be so awesome to fight the weapons (especially Emerald/Ruby) with better gfx.. omg, I just thought about it.. Ultimate End (Knights of The Round [Table]) would be -SO- cool..

They guy that does Seph's voice in the Japanese version of AC is perfect. He also voices Naraku(sp? its early) and I hope he can speak English.
I was quite happy with how everyone looked in the movie. Granted Tifa finally covered up, but its ok.

As much as how I'd love to play a revamped FF7, I doubt it would give anywhere near the amount of popularity as it did the first time. Mainly because one of the big reasons people like Final Fantasy games is the great story. Now if they re-made a game, everyone would already know how it goes.
It would really lose some of the initial suspense and surprise that I loved about playing it the first time. If anything, it would be great as an expansion pack, but not a stand-alone product. There's just not many games that are released that are only visual and audio updates.
And if they only gave it a visual update, it would seem out of place compared to the more recent higher-tech audio in today's games. They would have to update the sound. This is not to mention if they mess up any voices.
Everyone has their own idea of what each character sounds like. It's like when people compare a book to it's movie version: there's always people that complain that the original was better, for whatever reason.
I think we all, in our minds, have this perfect idea of what a new FF remake would be like, but in reality it would fall short from our expectations in all sorts of areas such as music, character voices, sound effects, or graphics.
