ok for the past week my internet has been getting really slow. i have road runner cable internet. its always been really fast till now. right now its slower than dial up. i went and opened all ports and disabled any kind of firewall on the router. didnt help at all. is there any kind of program i can use to maybe find my problem. i really dont want to call the cable company and have them come out because i will have to take down my router and cables. then explain to the guy why we only have one pc hooked up to internet.(they hate people who are smart enough to buy their own router and want you to belive that it will only work with theirs that cost 300$ and an extra 40$ a month) i had a torrent going eariler today and it was going just fine so i dont see why websites are loading soo slow. i was useing firefox and today i got opera to try it out. opera was about dialup speed for a few hours and now its way slower than dial up.

Make sure you arent downloading a torrent and trying to surf the web...because if you are uploading torrent data that will usually bring your net connection to a crawl. Next off CLOSE YOUR PORTS! Thats a huge security risk, opening ports has nothing to do with faster net connection. Do a spyware scan and do an ipconfig /release /renew and /flushdns. Also don't worry about the tech coming out and seeing you have multiple computers hooked up to one connection, the techs dont care they dont get paid enough to care.
clear out your cookies/cache and temp files
also check out www.speedguide.net for some speed tweaks
and go to www.toast.net and do a speed test to see what you are running
worst case call your ISP and have em come out and do a line test.
good luck

spyware and virus scan all show nothing. virus scan does show like 40 warnings. restarting doesnt help. processes under task manager shows 33 running. cpu usage is at 1% memory is at 434mb. if i run a torrent it downloads at about 60kb but when i shut it down web pages take almost 5 min to load. besides that the pc runs normal. intenet is slow like this on both pcs.

your firewall shouldn't be the issue. it probably responds with times of less than 1ms.
are you running any kind of p2p file sharing program? those use up bandwidth because they open a string of ports with the router, so if your router does not have any type of quality of service, then it can't prioritize web traffic, etc.
a great way to see what programs are open on your computer is to go into command prompt and type:
netstat -a -n
that should let you see all the ports open from your computer to the internet
i wouldn't trust any thing called "tcp optimizer" because packet construction is written incrediably efficient. unless it is running a qos, it might also be spyware

ok i did the command prompt and i have a hug ammount of things that came up but i have no idea what programs they are for or anything. i have no p2p programs open. the only programs that deal with internet are opera and antivir.

(i have vontage phone so i have 2 routers) took me forever but i got the vontage router to actully work as the only router on the network. now both pcs and phone are extreamly fast. i dont know what happened to the other router but it went down the drain. im glad i only paid 20$ new. i guess from now on i wont buy cheap routers.
