Spontaneous Hard Drive Power Lost

Anyone have the same problem that I do? While overclocking my front side bus above speeds from 155+ my hard drive will lose power out of no where. I thought my vcore was kind of low, so i performed the v-core mod and got it up, but the same problem persists. Tried almost everything to find out why my hard drive would just lose power.

Here are my specs:

Corsair pc-2400@cas 2 tried other timings no effect
CPU speed is 1650 10.5 x 157
3com Nic
Old 1999 WD Hard drive first 7200 rpm
Original SB Live!
Old ATI card
Swiftech 462 with Delta ehe on 7v

Temps Idle: 46
Full: 49

Vcore - 1.9-2.05
no increase in speed allowed

so anyone have any idea as to what is wrong with my pc and overclocking? I've searched all over the web, and no one has the same problem I do, where the hard drive would just lose power.

Have you tried using a different power connector off the power supply?

How big, what kind of PSU are you running. Sounds like a power prob.

My psu is 400 watt by antec, its a pp412. Here are my readings

3.3v - 3.33
5v - 5.00
12v - 12.46
Vcore - 2.06
Memory - 2.7

Power is sufficient as I am running:

A low power ATI card
Total of 3 cards
1 Dvd-rom
1 Hard drive

Any other suggestions or theories are very much appreciated.

Are you sure the hard drive is losing power?
What makes you think that is what is happening?

Well I am pretty sure that I am losing power to the hdd because my hdd is pretty loud when it spins up. When I suddenly reboot, out of no where, the cause is my hard disk drive shutting itself off. I can hear the platters spin down and the drive head park itself back. And for further proof to myself, once I post again after the restart, and it starts detecting the HDD it says none detected for which the hdd should be present. At this moment I can also hear the hdd spinning back up. I would have to let the HDD spin all the way back up and manually hit the reset button to load the HDD into the bios.

My Hard drive model is:

WDC AC418000D
18 Gig
7200 RPM, 1999 Model
It was one of the first 7200 RPM drives that came out.

It might be the hard drive is sensitive to the frequency,38.75 is a bit over spec. most hard drives can deal with 40+ but some cant.
Guess you will have to try a different hard drive or live with under 155fsb.

alright thanks, I am planning to pick up a new hard drive anyway. Planning to get the maxtor ata 133 ones with the fluid bearings. But I am waiting for them to come out. Anyone know when they are coming out? And any other suggestions on which HDD to get?
