My girlfriend ordered me the DT 990s for my bday. I was wondering what would be a good amp to accompany it. I mostly like to rock but a little bit of techno and hip hop. Oh was this a good decision? I was back and forth between these and the Grado SR125 or Sennheiser 595.

Can you give a budget for your amp? There is a pretty wide range for headphones amps ranging from $20 for a basic DIY job goingup to several thounsands of dollars. Also, are you looking for portability or are you looking for a rig that will stay at home? Are you capable of doing a Do-it-Yourself project or are you looking for a prebuilt amp?
As you can see, there are several options that you need to look at so that we can help you make a decision.

Well, in the DIY arena you could put together a CMoy (http://www.tangentsoft.net/audio/cmoy-tutorial/) for between $20 and $50. Some other possibilities from Tangent are the MINT (http://www.tangentsoft.net/audio/mint/) for around $60-$70 and the PIMETA (http://www.tangentsoft.net/audio/pimeta/), which can be done for under/around $100. There are some very interesting designs that are also emerging that could be very promising (specifically the PINT and the Mini^3)
If you want to go with a retail amp, the PA2V2 (http://www.electric-avenues.com/amplifiers.html) seems to be a popular choice. I dont have as much experience with the retail arena of amps, as I have built all my amps myself. Hope this helps you out.
