My friend and I were looking around the net for fun and thinking about getting a couple 6600 or 6800's for bother of us and started to look for some of the gainward golden samples. My friend has always used these and has seen some of the best performance from them. We couldnt find any real stores selling them though and the people on ebay wanted upwards of $450 for them. Are they still heavy in business or whats going on?

Oh well, that's a shame because these are usually great cards.

mepis i have a 5900nu golden sample, i tried getting info on the gainward site and apparently gainward u.s. is no more. most of the support come from gainward germany. the have a forum as well.

my gainwards been good to me, flashed it to a modified 5950u bios and voltmodded 1.6 vgpu, 2.9 vddr and its running along smoothly.

alot of people on this forum like the evga cards.

mainly becauseof the stepup program, which is really the reason why eeryone buys their cards "great selling point". if all manufacturers did that omg.

Gainwards are great cards! I've owned one in the past. I use a Chaintech 6800 card with a Golden Sample GT BIOS flashed to it.

BFG, and Evga are great cards right now. With the upgrade plan they have Evga is a great way to go if you have extra cash and wat to upgrade frequently.

BFG covers OC'ing. If you're into card modding, the stepup program won't do anything for you though, becasue they won't take back a modded card obviously. If I'm remembering right, they do cover OC'ing though.

The Jury is out on XFX cards. I've seen alot of XFX cards with high temps, and bad cooling. If you go that route, you might wanna consider getting good aftermarket cooling.

Hope that helps you, and gives you some other ideas you might be able to use. :)

I had a 5600 golden sample that lasted me for almost 2 years playing all the new games out. haven't really heard much of them lately

I think if anything I might get a PNY 6600 now that I know gainward is gone from the US for right now. I've always enjoyed PNY very much and my local comp shop has a 256 meg card for $150 dollars brick and mortat and they will take back my card if I screw up a mod or overclock it and kill it (the people there really like me as I bring them tons of business). As for evga, I've never been to fond of them. In my opinion, at least with the cards Ive had from them, theyve all been crap. They run real well and such but the craftmenship and quality of the card is almost none at all. But like connect3d they might have changed a lot since I last used them.

Anyway Im debating if I want to get anohter card at all, and if I do will it be geforce or ATI. Im going to be starting devry soon and a lot of the classes they teach are windows based and Id rather not turn in a report on samba for simple file sharing even though linux rocks and the file sharing protocols are based from samba. So for that reason of being stuck with windows right now I MIGHT go ATI again. I dont know though. Do I want to spend the money when my 9500 is chugging along great? I have a giant 3 on it with the 4 extra pipelines unlocked to a 9500 pro and it runs doom 3 real world performance, not benchmark, at 1024x768 at very high settings at a full 60 frames right now and doesnt drop. I usually dont play games over 1280x1024 anyway as I only have a 17" monitor.

We were looking around for gainward cards for the spur of the moment "we gotta buy something because we have the extra money tonight and we both need a new toy" kind of thing but thats gone now and we both went back to work the next day and realised we wouldnt have time to enjoy our new toy that much anyway. so oh well... Ill keep browsing slowly and see what people have to say on other threads too, Im in no rush.
