Hi everyone. I have an eMachine T1090 with a 900MHz Celeron and I would like to know what my options are for upgrading the processor. First of all, *can* I even upgrade the processor on this motherboard? Here are my specs:

EMachine T1090
* - Intel Celeron 900MHz Socket 370 CPU w/ Heatsink & Fan
* - 384MB of Memory Installed - PC100
* - Socket 370 Motherboard with Intel 810 Chipset
* - Radeon 9200se PCI 128mb
* - Built-In 3D Crystal Sound
* - 20GB IDE Hard Drive

I've come across advertisements for AMD socket 370 chips, will those works in this board as well as the PIII's and Celerons?

And my motherboard doesn't have any temp sensors, so I don't want to OC it. I just want a fast one running stock, like maybe a 1.4GHz PIII. If I just put it in there, should it recognize it and run properly? The BIOS on this thing doesn't give me any room to work anyway.

Thanks for any help you give me. I need the info.

:)

Well some one who knows more than I do will come along shortly but we need to know your motherboard. Download and Run CPU-Z. iirc revision 1.x of the 810 chipset does not support the last gen of PIII the ones that go up to 1.4GHz, the name starts with a T. You have a copermine I know that and the highest the copermines went to were 1Ghz. iirc you have a slim chance that you can get a 1.4GHz.

Also can you show me were you can kind socket 370 AMD? as far as I know AMD went from socket 7 to socket A.

Fastest processor supported by the chipset is those with a 100Mhz Bus which is up to PIII 1.1Ghz assuming BIOS support.

Here's my CPUz info:

Do you guys think going from a 900MHz Celly to a 1.1Ghz PIII would make much of a difference? I really just want it for light gaming old school (like Red Faction and Half-Life w/mods).

About the AMD S370 thing, I'm pretty sure I read something wrong during a google search. (..., AMD, Socket 370,....,....).

Not much of a difference, but if you can get the PIII 1GHz Coppermine (fastest, excluding the 1.13GHz that was recalled) for free, then by all means go for it.
It is possible to get a 1.1GHz (fastest) Celeron Coppermine too.

After that there are the Tualatin PIII/Celeron's, these are excellent chips, built on the same die process as the P4 northwood's (.13 micron).
These chips range from 1.0-1.4GHz in speed, the PIII has 512k L2 cache, and the Celeron has 256k L2 cache (with a small latency hit).
I personally ran a 1.1a Celeron Tualatin at 1.55GHz, and it was an excellent chip for what it was. If you decide to overclocking the Tualatin's, you can expect 1.5-1.7GHz max.

If your motherboard is locked at 100FSB, then if you wack a 1.4GHz Celeron Tualatin (secondhand cheap) in there, with an upgradeware convertor (cheap). Im sure you will be more than happy, the 1.4GHz Celeron Tualatin will beat a PIII 1GHz Coppermine with ease.

Check this page to see if it possible to use a Tualation with you motherboard:
