Just wondering if there's one anywhere. I'll be pulling my mobo in a little bit and think I'd like to give it a try.... Can anyone point me in the right direction???

A couple of comments on the mod...
- Be sure to turn down the vcore in BIOS to stock before the modding. The droop mod increases the vcore about 0.07v and the vcore with about 0.01v with a 100k VR.
- With the VR set to 30k before soldering, I got a positiv droop of 0.02v during load (ie: 1.50 idle -> 1.52 load) Therefor, I recommend starting with a 50k VR set to at least 40k.
- The read out point isn't optimal for real vcore. Measure at the CPU side of one of the four coils instead. (There is a voltage drop from the mosfet to the CPU, so they are not the same.)

I'm sure this has been addressed somewhere, but I always wondered why don't the boards come with better components to prevent vdroop in the first place?????

According to Intel's own design specifications, motherboards should have droop for various reasons. One of them is to lower heat output. Motherboard manufacturers also implement droop as a margin for idle -> load voltage drops.
For stock purposes, there is nothing bad about droop, but for overclocking it's another situation.

how much of a difference would this really make in terms of an overclock? i have the same board with an oc'd 820 d (3.56 ghz) but when I finally get my watercooling stuff up and running I will probably try to push it further.
will the v-droop mod really make that much of a difference for me?

It makes enough of a difference to make this mod worth doing.
I don't run any Intel MBs without a vDroop mod.
