Anybody have both. Millenium Claims a .2 C/W reduction with the newer model. Its $13.00 more however. Is it worth it. If it actually performs that much better it might be, but does it.

the glaciator II is better...just, why dont you look at other heatsinks as well?

I havent decided on anything yet. Im kinda worried about the weight of the glaciator, i go to LAN parties alot. The new alpha whould also be an option, i do like the idea of the four-hole mounting, especially for moving the computer.

the glaciator has a lot of nice things about it. first, its so heavy it can break everything in your computer when it comes loose ;-) for real though, it uses a quieter fan stock than most other hsfs do, and also still cools really well. i was wondering the difference between the two but if its .2 i might grab a glaciator 2 and try it out. need some better cooling in my rig.
I personally liked the glaciator so much that I used in my parents system (epox 8kt7a, 1ghz AXIA 'y'@1.33) but, with the new alpha selling for 29$, it's no contest.

So you would recommend a new Alpha over a glaciator?

About the weight issue, do you think its really necessary to remove the heatsink to move the computer.

just lay the computer on its side when u move it...........or do what I did and use zip ties and zip tie that sucker through the holes in the mobo so it can't come off and come crashing down......cheap insurance if u ask me

I have the Glaciator II, but did not have to pay extra. I actually ordered a Glaciator a few days before the announcement about the II, but they sent me the II without me even asking.
I would NOT recommend moving your computer around a lot with the Glaciator though. It is heavy, not obscenely heavy, but heavy.
It does do a GREAT job of cooling and it NOT loud at all, which is a BIG positive in my book.
I LOVE the idea of the zip ties to reinforce the Glaciator clip. That sounds like a very good idea if you plan on moving the computer. I asked MTS about clip breaking problems and they said they have had no issues with breaking clips, but did recommend removing it if you move the PC a lot.
If you can zip that baby down that would be the ticket. Plus, you get a little packet of ASII with the Glaciator, which is enough to probably do 4-5 HSF installations (a nice touch).
Anyway, those are my thoughts.
If anyone sees a review comparing the two, please point it out.

I do lay it on its side when i move it, and of course im very careful with it. The zip tie idea is good though. So would you recommend getting the cheap Glaciator I or the more expensive Glaciator II?
Actually I would recommed the alpha over the glaciator now. The flexiabilty of a 80mm setup with the security of the 4-hole mounting system of the alpha is reason alone to buy it over the glaciator. Buy a 29.0$ alpha and slap on a L1 or M1 panaflo and you're set. Want to go crazy, then get a 69 cfm delta...
Cost for the alpha and a fan shouldn't be more than 5-10$ more than a glaciator. Temp wise, with a lower cfm fan I'm sure the new alpha has about the same or maybe a bit better C/W. The glaciator is a good heatsink but, I think the new alpha is better..especially for you and your lan parties.;)

Supposedly the new Glaciator is a bit more lightweight than the Glaciator I, but not too much more.
I would probably go with the newer model, just because it is a bit lighter and 'might' be better at cooling (but probably not much better).
Put it this way, if I had a Glaciator I, I would not be running out to get a new one, but I would go for the new one and do the zip tie trick.
I don't know anything personally about the Alpha, but from what I have read, it is also a good sink and you'd probably not go wrong there either.
I like the Glaciator because it performs great and does not sound like a hair dryer.

with the fan oc.com used, the Glaciator is a tad better C/W wise.
