I'm tired of using powerstrip to get the res I want, and it's been giving me some troubles as far as letting me do what I want. I know if I go wiht the omegas, I will be able to get the res I want. Do you think the performance hit I would get would be that big?

Omega 6.1 vs. ATI 6.2

Whadd'ya think ladies!?

the omega 6.2's may be out soon

How SOON is "soon"!? Within the month? It looks like the maker of omega drivers only makes them if there's a big enough difference between the previous driver and this newer one. Would you say there's been a big enough difference?

I would say that since the 6.2's are the first official driver that support the x1900's that would be a big enough difference.

Yea, go with the Catalyst, as the Omeaga 6.1s don't even support the x1900 series AFAIK.

I hope so badly that these omegas come out quick. If they come out within this month, I just might donate money.

i'm sorry i may be undereducated on this but, what's the importance of the omega drivers over ati's?

Optimisations, if they are the same as what nvidia does.. just removes crap you dont need, tweaks the drivers to run better/smoother/with les stress on cpu i dont know.. just general optimisations.. I would think :p

.inf tweaks that can be done with a 3rd party tweaker yourself. No actual driver binary modifications.

And more resolutions w/o using powerstrip.

Yeah.

But does ATT support the X1900s yet? Last I checked it was still crashin' and crappin out, but that may have been an older version than the 6.1's.

I still think the Officals are better. Only thing I don't like it the bloat that comes with CCC, but with 2GB now, I really don't care LOL, still have 1600MBs free :santa: 6.2's for sure. I noticed overall better fps even on my X1800XT

From what Omega says, the recent drivers have been very good, and he really hasn't had to do much. Just a few tweaks, and removes CCC.

In my opinion it would though if Im not mistaken the developer of the omega drivers works close or in some way with ATI... I cant remember for sure... catalyst 6.2 is jammin have you considered installing "ATI TOOL" and also there is a new Catalyst Beta Program out GURU calls it Catalyst 6.1 1\2 dont ask me I heard good things about it but you know there can be down side to Beta programs

Omega Drivers did seem to provide more of a balance between Quality and performance thats not the case anymore in my opinion.. You no I haven't heared anyone mention the overclocking utility that comes with Catalyst 6.2 it determines the best OC for your GPU simply by unlocking it and executing the utility its very simple and I had no problems is eveyone or anyone utilizing this utility 6.2 is the first Catalyst version that offered this utility I would think one would hear more Feed Back on it ....Right

Not having to install CCC is what got me over to using Omega drivers. Prior to that I would always use ATi's official.

thats not a overclocking utility that is new to 6.2 it was a part of the overdrive feature that is part of the cards more than the drivers, the reason why we dont use it is because it only goes to 690/800

my card does at least 705/850 right now ...

Unless there's a major bug in the drivers there is only a few fps difference anyway so take your pick or just wait for the Omega - they're generally a couple of weeks behind.
